Yeah. Frederic should be good for 6mins.

Wow, out and around on the southside here you wouldn't even know playoffs is on. In Millhood particularly no flag, banner whatever. Not much excitement about the Oilers playoffs starting. I have to tune in here for some excite. heh

Well, enjoy the game folks.
Yeah, as a fellow southsider it's pretty quiet here in the southwest as well. Seems to be getting worse each year. I remember how electric the entire city was in 2016. I guess that's the price you pay for becoming a perennial playoff team - expectations go up and anticipation goes down.

If we bash Josh Brown any more he will score a goal tonight. Assuming the universal laws of Nuge and Nurse apply to Brown.
I'd settle for being +0 on the night with some big hits. Honestly there is a universe where we choose to keep him if he can play up to what Desharnais was. That type of D won't work vs Colorado or Dallas but maybe against LA

Bettman: “After a hard fought playoff, I am excited to announce the Edmonton Oilers as Stanley Cup Champions *crowd roars and cheers*. However *crowd gasps and boos, while Bettman stands there with a smirk and finger wagging*…HOWEVER, due to a miscalculation on the Oilers part with the handling of a player on LTIR, we have no choice but to have deemed this player illegal for the entire four rounds. The Oilers forfeit the Cup to the Calgary Flames. Pack this thing up. Calgary, we will see you shortly.”
Calgary Flames immediately trades the cup to Maple Leafs for Joffrey Lupul's signing rights.

It was speculated that the league didn't like the LTIR situations for both us and the Avs so they told us we couldn't use these guys for game 1. I'm not sure I believe it but it wouldn't shock me
Speculated by a random twitter account run by a guy up in Alaska making some dodgy connection conjured out of thin air.

His speculation doesn't make any sense with regards to Landeskog, and he's already been proven wrong about Kane as he won't play till game 3

Is there more info on Ekholm? I heard torn groin which makes me think he’s out for the entire playoffs. But man if it’s not torn and he can join in a round or two that would be a huge boost.

We need basically everyone else healthy to make it past round 1 though
Wasn’t the original reason given for him being out of the lineup the flu? It’s been so long I can’t remember now. I don’t recall any talk of an actual injury. I just remember that when he was still playing people were speculating that he was looking “red-faced and winded” on the bench after every shift and the flu excuse made sense. When he didn’t return after a week or so the flu excuse made less sense. In the game he finally returned in and left early it did look like a groin injury. I’m not convinced whatever is wrong with Ekholm is just one thing and because of that think it’s unlikely we see him again this year.

Do we really know the game 3 thing? I know Stauffer said that but it seemed more like him tossing that out because it feels fun

What makes that speculation feel right is some of the other info. There was that one interview where Kane said that he better be careful about what he says, when talking about his timeline, and that was weird.

Who knows. Seems there has been some performance around Kane by the team to play up the LTIR stuff, just look at the trade deadline with all the noise that he was going to screw over the Oilers somehow by coming back before the end of the season.

He might be ready to go right now, but I could totally see the coaching staff not wanting to play Kane's first game of hockey in a year on the road where the Kings have last change.

So? Did the NHL introduce a new rule where you can't play game 1 but all's good for game 2 just 48 hours later?

Pretty much yes. Friedman reported today he strongly suspects the league told teams who had players who sat out on LTIR but then play Game 1 of the playoffs will be investigated and penalized - unlike prior years. Seguin played Game 82 as a result and Oilers sitting Kane, Avs sat Landeskog and Stars sat Heiskanen for G1.

Freidman reported it this morning.

And the >latest< Kane plays is G3 according to Med Chickenman.

That is an interesting consequence. Personally these back room rule things are dumb. Especially in these cases, this consequence doesn't attack the heart of the problem
