Big Game Story: If the Los Angeles Kings needed any reminder that it's not 2012 anymore, the St. Louis Blues served it to them with Tuesday’s 2-1 overtime win to open their Western Conference quarterfinal. Alex Steen's second goal of the game, which came shorthanded at 13:26 of the first extra period, was the end result of a puck-handling mistake by goalie Jonathan Quick and marked the Blues' first win against the Kings in nine games, dating to the 2011-12 regular season. The Kings swept the Blues in the second round of last year's Stanley Cup Playoffs. KINGS need to remind the BLUES which team won the Stanley Cup Championship. GO KINGS GO !!!

2012WCSFKingsvBluesStoll.jpg
Forward & Team Captain DUSTIN BROWN said:
"You might call it a fluky goal, but they outplayed us for the whole game. When you play the game that they did, you get the breaks that they get. Well, Jon Quick was really good. He gave us a chance. Then we get a double minor power play, and they find a way to get a goal on it. They deserved to win the game."
Forward & Alt. Captain ANZE KOPITAR said:
"I mean, we have a chance to win the game, and everybody was focused on doing that. Unfortunately, we gave it up. That obviously shouldn’t happen, and can’t happen. It is what it is. We didn’t play our best hockey, so we’ve got to rebound back in a couple days here and play much better."
Forward DUSTIN PENNER said:
"We didn’t lose the game on one play last night. There were a bunch of plays that led to it. They had a guy step up at an opportune time. Their special teams were better, and their five-on-five play was better that warranted them drawing more penalties. So we had a chance to steal one. That’s why we play seven games."
Defenseman ROBYN REGEHR said:
"I’ve stopped counting."
Goaltender JONATHAN QUICK said:
Head coach DARRYL SUTTER said:
"If he’s healthy, It’s not just healthy, but he’s got to be up to speed. He needed about 10 games, to be quite honest,” Sutter said. “You just don’t put him in the lineup because he’s Matt Greene. Matt Greene has to be able to play and perform. We were hoping to get more games, quite honest, from him before, and he got banged up. We’ll see. I’m quite happy playing those two kids (Muzzin and Ellerby) because they’re both very capable, too."
Head coach DARRYL SUTTER said:
"He was outstanding…he played a great game. Kind of ironic that the two best players on the ice were in on the goal. And even there, he tries to make a play, and I think Steen’s stick tapped it. It was hard to tell from the bench, but he made the good play. That’s a play we try and make on the power play. Go to the defenseman. Tough play."

- UPCOMING WCQF PLAYOFFS SCHEDULE -
2013WCQFScheduleRnd1_zpsa9fe4b6d.png

NOTE : Regarding LARGE SIZE IMAGES / YELLOW RE-SIZE IMAGE BARS ABOVE PICS, let me offer up one nice little suggestion ...
This will get rid of those pesky yellow resize bars over the top of some larger pictures ... as they annoy the hell out of me and maybe they do you also ?
- Go into/click on your "USER CP" {control Panel} up top left in the red bars
- on the left under 'Settings & Options' click on "Edit Options"
- scroll down to 'Thread Display Options', and then 'Please Select the Resize Mode'
- click on the 'Drop Down List Box' over on the Right of 'Please Select the Resize Mode'
- select it to "KEEP ORIGINAL SIZE"
- SAVE your selections !
There ... now don't that look MUCH BETTER

This game is the game where we show our true colors either we win and come back strong this game and the ones after. Or we fold today and lose the series. Let's win.

I don't care who we ice or what the lines are, just take care of business and go home with home ice advantage. Do it.

I dont want to sound like a Debbie Downer but I've lost all confidence.

It started with the game vs Detroit where the Kings got badly outplayed. Something I hadnt seen since game one vs Chicago but that was the first game of the regular season. We also lost all final games when the other team still had to play for a playoff spot.

People said we were already in playoff mode. Well, it sure didnt look that way. I rather would have lost in regulation than what I had to swallow around 4.30 AM here.

I'm not even sure if I'm going to watch the game tonight. A couple of hours later I've to go to work again. I've rarely felt so bad as two days ago. So much wasted time.

We were on the fence of winning that game, how ridiculous that may sound if you have watched the game but the Kings really turned it around. We had it in the pocket.

Win or lose, I'm convinced the Kings will win their two upcoming games at home. If they can steal this one, all the better.

As long as Quick gives them a chance to win, it's fine by me. But hopefully the team took notice and won't rely on him to give up just one goal this time.

St. Louis stole a book from our game plan. Time to shove it back down their throats.

There were other times.

They say a series doesn't really start until the road team wins a game. That's when the pressure starts to build on the other side. That's when a series can tip to one side or the other.

The Kings weren't a good road team all year. They were pretty good at home though. They're going to have to win at least 1 game on the road in this series, but all they have to win is 1 if they take care of home ice. They played a bad game on Wednesday, and still almost got that win. That's why the playoffs are great.

Let the series play out a bit before you go jumping off the bridge. It's not one and done. If it was, they wouldn't even bother with a 7 game series. The Kings took a punch to the nose. Now they have to respond to that.

St. Louis had a whole year to stew over getting their ***** handed to them in a 4 game sweep. There was no way they were not going to come out and play their best game. The Kings had everything go their way in last years playoffs. It was natural for the Blues to come out pissed off, especially on home ice. Hopefully, game 1 woke up the beast in the Kings. Now we get to see what they are made of. I think we see a big push back from our boys tonight and I am predicting we win game two. Go Kings!!!!!

Well it's easier to be the eternal pessimist but I won't go that route and not because I have blind faith in this team because I most certainly do not but because it was one game. A game that I thought they might lose due to a lack of intensity and tenacity coupled with a huge desire of St. Louis to win. Tonight will be a more full picture of where we are at.

We will see if that game one win was the catalyst for the blues like ours against Vancouver was. We will see what kind of heart this kings team has. A lot of interesting questions will be answered tonight. Oh, and not to mention its a seven game series and in NHL playoffs ANYTHING can happen.

Go Kings.

As a Blues fan, I expect a big push from the Kings. The key for the Blues is composure. Last year we didn't have it. Should be another great game. I expect this series to go 7.

So I guess we're going with the same lines again tonight? *sigh*

Maybe I'll just skip this game. Last year I missed game 1 against the Canucks for the most part and that turned out pretty well.

Yes, it sounds like (from Sutter yesterday below) he likes his decision. And as much as the fans and some analysts have disagreed with his decision, it would appear he's sticking with it. He knows how dominant the Kopi-Brown-Williams line was in the playoffs that year and I was hoping after the 1st game didn't net good results he'd go back t o that and put Penner on the 2nd. He says he wants Kopi to play better but separates him from the 2 players he's had the most success with?? In a 7 game series, that doesn't leave a lot of time to wait for an experiment to work. But it would appear he is sticking with it . I can't see it being succesful, but the onliy person whose opinion matters is his, he's the coach.

Sutter, on whether he has thought about putting Kopitar back with Brown and Williams:“You know, the reason we [adjusted the lines] was knowing full well who we were playing, and that 42 (David Backes) plays against 11 (Anze Kopitar). Mike has struggled on the road this year, and if you look at it, it has a big thing to do with the regular season – it wasn’t Kopi’s line. It was whoever Mike was playing with. That line struggled on the road. Jeff and Kopi play really well together. They play a lot of power play time together, and they have something there. So that’s the reason we did it, and quite honest, Mike and Brownie and Willie were our best line by a long shot last night. So it’s more on Kopi to play better, not on putting somebody with him to help him. I wish I got to play with the leading goal scorer in the Western Conference.”

Hopefully they can use Quick's blunder as something to rally behind. Remember in the Phoenix series last year when Quick let in that shot from center? The team got motivated and took care of business. No finger pointing, they realized how many times Quick bailed them out and got it back for him. Here's hoping the same thing happens.

Love the quote from Sutter about wishing he could play with Carter. Gold.

He isn't wrong. I'd prefer Richards play with two better wingers than Kopitar. Anze shouldn't "need" Brown and/or Williams to succeed: he is supposed to be a player that raises the level of play of his linemates.

If Penner comes out strong again, don't be surprised if he is moved up to the top lines. Sutter won't stick with these lines if they crap the bed again.

I think people confuse a 5-1 loss with getting outworked all game long. The Kings have a bad road record but being tossed around is something different. I've seen pretty much all Kings games. They looked like amateurs vs the Blues, Wings and Blackhawks. If you are going to tell me that there were other times this season, than I think we have to agree to disagree.

Of course there have been games that the other team was better but that's not what I'm talking about.
