GDT: WCQF: Game 4 - Dallas Stars @ Colorado Avalanche | 7:30PM MT

Brilliant result to wake up to (Nuggets too). Watched the clips of Landy’s goal repeatedly

Don’t feel like going through this whole thread. Did Bednar make any key adjustments or did the boys just play better and with intensity again?

Just over 5 hours on the countdown clock hoping to make it 3/3 today
The players played executed much better. The O'Connor goal also gave them a tonne of momentum and got the crowd involved.

Tactically there did seem to be an increased focus on soft dump-ins to the corners compared to the previous two games though. The Dallas Dmen were too slow and unskilled to deal with puck retrievals when they're immediately under pressure from the faster Avs forwards, and gave the Avs plenty of opportunities to make hits that amped up the crowd.

Thanks! Glad to hear they’re finally going for the soft corner dump to keep the puck away from Otter. Drove me crazy in last years series they practically refused to do it and didn’t spend the break figuring it out how to actually execute it

The Avs played a different game tonight then they've played in games 1-3. Tonight they played with swagger. That second period... damn. Every single board battle, they turned into a f***ing war they refused to back down from. And basically in doing so, they just ellusive gear where they can not be denied.

Tonights game felt more like a march of destiny than a tightly contested playoff game.

But, I have no doubt game five is going to have a very different feel but the Avs need to approach it in the exact same manner. Every single clear, dump in and board battle needs to be executed perfectly and with clear purpose.

Was a very fun game to watch. O'Connor's face while congratulating on his goal from the bench. Everyone was filled with joy... but the guys that played with Gabe... their reactions all had something more. Mack's huge hug, Lehky's stoicism completely breaking down into a huge, laughing grin. The way Nuke was hugging Landy on the ice after the goal. Just such a phenomenal moment in time.

I liked that the Avs went after Marchment. That mofo better not try coming around here to spread his kaka. We will beat his ass!

If they were listening during his locker room speech, they should be.

“It really isn’t about me. I know there’s been a lot of attention, thank you guys or being so supportive, and patient. This is about us. If you guys look around this room, we’ve got a hell of a team."

"And I think we all realize what an opportunity we got. And when we play like that, from top to bottom. Everybody on the back end. Blackie. Wedgie good support."

"But it’s gonna take everybody and that’s the way it goes. And I think tonight, great start. Let’s reset, let’s do it again.”

GD speech makes my eyes wet. So happy for Gabe and the boys.

Nammerus after this game.

iu
Also Nammerus before the game too.

Well..

We've seen what they're capable of. Hopefully that means the rest of the fkn team has now seen the same thing.

Punk ass bitches bring that regularly and the Cup is yours. Now the old guys are reminded, and the knew ones know.

Get it the f*** done

I never thought there would be a moment that could rival the Bourque cup handoff, and maybe there never will be… but by god if they pulls this off and Landy raises it again, it’ll be a close second imo

I really liked him on that 2nd line. I would not split 92-11-13 at least for game 5. Nelson has been pretty difficult to jumpstart but 92 might be the key there for him. That line is 100% beef and they're difficult to contain.
Agree. They were so dominant. We don't need 92 on the first line. We need a 2nd line that works. The first line will figure it out. The only acceptable change would be 11 and 13 at this point but I am not sure I want to try anything different from game 4 yet.

Thanks for typing this out. Still haven't been able to find a video of it, weirdly.

The Avs will have $8.7m in capspace with 16 guys signed this off season. Moving Colton and Wood adds another $6.5m in space, so they'd have $15.2m in total capspace, which might be enough to bring back everyone except Drouin.

Nelson $6.5m
Kiviranta $1.5m
Malinski $1.5m
Lindgren $4m

Those signings, along with Ivan and Prischepov (or other similar caphit depth guys) leave the 22 man roster below with $48k in capspace.

It would suck to let Drouin walk as he's decent value in the regular season, but if you have a choice between Drouin and Lindgren right now Lindgren is clearly more important to this teams success in the playoffs. The Avs simply can't afford another ~$3m+ winger, especially one who's sinking any line he's on in the playoffs the way Drouin has been the last couple of games.

I think keeping that defense together and moving on from Wood and Colton are all the correct moves. My biggest concerns are with this team up front. I think Necas and Nelson both showed better flashes last night, so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt that they are just getting used to playoff hockey with the Avs, but I do have some true concerns with both of them. I also have some concerns on if Lehkonen is still a top 6 forward. To my eyes he seems to have lost a step and it’s causing him to be behind the play a touch mentally too.

I don't think it's realistic to be able to move Colton and Wood without taking any salary back. It's nice on paper and all but when you move guys you no longer want that were signed at full UFA value usually teams don't just take them off your hands for picks. They want to swap their crap for yours.
