Post-Game Talk: WCQF Game #3 - Sharks vs Kings (Sharks lose 2-1 in OT)

Was at the game as well and good summary. The faceoff domination by the Kings was very noticeable especially when we were on the power play. The Sharks struggled at times just bringing the puck into the zone.

I thought I heard some stat that we had only 3 shots on 5 power play attempts. A lot of shot attempts were blocked or deflected out of play

Hopefully, the Sharks can make a few adjustments (wonder if Spaling gets replaced with Zubrus) and get their PP going

That PP in the 3rd where they spent the entirety of the it in the Kings zone wearing them down, I think it was 10 shot attempts. 5 were blocked and 5 missed.

Or Tierney and Marleau need to be way better in the face off circle.

Both can be better. Marleau tends to rely on his wingers to win the puck back as he prefers to tie up in the circle and at the very least not lose clean. He lost clean too many times but his wingers need to win their battles to help win draws as well.

You're using an individual thing like the faceoff to justify the Sharks not making adjustments?

I'm saying it is an example of it, yes.

Or the Kings are just better in the FO circle.

I'd say they are roughly equal, except the Kings changed their strategy after losing ~55% of the draws in game one

Or Tierney and Marleau need to be way better in the face off circle.

Isn't this basically the same thing I am saying?

Looked like we outplayed them, so I don't really mind the loss. Mostly upset about the PP.

I'd much rather win than lose, "outplayed" or not! Hopefully, the "outplaying" translates to other games and results in a difference in production.

Also, I would agree that our skaters "outplayed" their skaters. But Quick was huge for LA, and Jones wasn't for SJ. The goaltending matchup is an important one, and LA won that one handily. If LA's upper hand in net continues, then I am queasier about the rest of the series.

I really put a lot of the blame on the 4th line. Sharks were dominate until the 4th line put us on the PK and it just killed our momentum. Not only did the kings score but they got the better of 5on5 for a stretch. Sharks didn't start controlling play until they got their own PPs later in the game.

Not like I'm asking the 4th line to score. 3 penalties on them in 2 periods is ridiculous and can't happen. They can't hurt the team that much for the role they are asked to play

If you care about the fancy stats, our 4th line got dominated possession wise as well.

I think sutter made an adjustment on the powerplay but I doubt they changed their face off strategy. Usually what you see is more tie ups or springing the wingers early to cause turnovers. We were getting beat clean all night.

5v5 what can you say? We had some really good looks on quick. But we didn't or couldn't crash the net with more than one guy and I didn't see as many moving screens and tips.

You don't beat collapse D by grinding and cycling. You enter get the puck get to the net. Get them moving out to challenge etc.

Usually Deboer makes those changes. He didn't and it went to OT where anything can happen.

They lost because Quick got a super lucky save on that Couture power play snipe.

It happens.

Keep limiting the Kings to three shots a period and it'll all be just fine.

We win: "oh SJ got fluke bounces, history says they will choke!!1"

we lose: "same old shorks. LA is just in their headz!"

Don't care about 1 loss, just win the damn series

biggest thing sutter did was basically go with 4.5 D men and bench McBain. helped out huge.

Time will tell if LA's D can keep up the heavy minutes.

That's why I want the Sharks to stay 5 on 5. Kings legs started to look heavy in the 3rd.

Which is funny considering Anaheim has blown a 2-0 lead 4 years in a row. Same as the Blues.

Play more 5 on 5 is a key going forward.

That's true. They've carried the play even strength. Their pk hasn't been great, and La has used the guy in front of the net to push the defender out of the passing lane on both Kopitar and Lecavilier's pp goals.

Gotta keep the sticks away from their sides because they've baited the refs into multiple calls by grabbing sticks and selling them as hooks.

I laughed when I saw a Ducks fans post "same old Sharks last night"

Really? How many game 7's at home have the Ducks lost in a row? Who is down 2-0 in their series?

They'll be saying '07!!1 for the next 50 years.

They will never win anything with Getzlaf and Perry leading the way.

No one can take this away from us.

Kings fan here, this is a way different Sharks team. Also the current ducks team are much bigger chokers. As you have pointed out 4 years dropping 2-0 series leads...jesus.

I hope Nashvhille crushes them. Cannot stand Perry, Bieksa or kessler

I think the Ducks are getting swept. Young blueline is getting hammered and exposed. No calming influence when the chaos starts.
