First of all, calm down.

Second, nobody said every single person in Canada is cheering for the Oilers.

It is absolutely indisputable that Canadian fans and media make the playoffs about the Canadian teams every year. Including some who explicitly say they cheer for any Canadian team to win. You’re not going to Jedi mind trick people into forgetting that this has been an annual thing for decades.

As a Leafs fan, I have to begrudgingly admit Montreal is the most interesting team, though also the biggest underdog.

Everyone is expecting the Leafs to crash and burn as usual, expectations seem to be lower for Edmonton this year, Winnipeg has its own Leafs-complex of playoff mediocrity to overcome, and Ottawa, I don’t know, does anyone think they’re a dark horse, or just a happy-to-be-there team?

I’m not feeling particularly glowing over any of their chances at a cup, but I also wouldn’t be shocked to see Edmonton or Winnipeg in the finals.

Don’t sit here and try to gaslight people into thinking this isn’t a big annual thing with Canadian fans.

There’s a difference between speculating and talking about a team’s chances and actively cheering for them.

The last time the “Canada’s team” shit was trotted out (and people seemed on board) was with Calgary. And that was over 20 years ago.

I can assure you that Canadians are not cheering on the Oilers en masse because Canada. Some folks might be, but other folks would rather chug a hemlock smoothie and rinse it out with shotgun mouthwash before cheering for a rival squad.

Mcdavid and Draisaitl can have 3-4 points games and still lose since they have the great equalizer in Skinner.

Most fans in places like this hate other Canadian teams.
