You think if a Canadian team had a chance to end the Cup in Canada drought it would not be a huge deal across the country? Give your head a shake

I suppose but I just don't see the appeal if I'm a fan of a team outside of Edmonton. I would never be rooting for just anyone in my country, I'd only be rooting for the Canadian team I'd root for.

But I'm a Boston fan so I admit I just don't get it.

Honest question, even in Calgary? Obviously there will be some/many people who would be excited, but could it be fair to say that Flames fans would be not so thrilled in general?
The majority of Canadians are casual fans. So I would say generally speaking most people will be rooting for Edmonton in Canada.

Oilers had a 2 goal lead after the 1st last game and I said they needed to get the next one. Same thing tonight imo. Stars know the Oilers might crack if they get the next goal.

5-2 puts this game away, 4-3 and it becomes a fire drill.

They would not be cheering for them… but they sure as hell would be watching every minute

I think that’s how I and others felt 10 years ago but it’s getting pretty embarassing. Just want the narrative gone

3rd period about to start and all I have in my mind is.....

All I can hear in my head is that voice whenever Skinner f***s up

So many Canadians don't follow hockey at all, never make their plans around watching it on TV. But if a Canadian team gets to the SCF, they'll jump on that bandwagon and that's fine too.

Bouchard is so unbelievably pedestrian this series when it comes to defense. Just let his man skate from him and have a good shot on net. Didn't even try to get the puck back.

Kinda surprised they didn't call that trip. Was maybe the most "penalty-like" play of the game so far.

I think after so long a lot of people would like to see a Canadian team win. It would depend on the team and what team you cheer for. I doubt Calgary fans would be cheering for Edmonton to do it.

No.... Many Canadians just watch hockey for love. Many don't watch at all. And then there are ppl like me... Eat breath and sleep Oilers and when they are out, f*** the rest. If the Oilers were out, 😭 I would cheer against Vancouver.. But I would have better things to do than watch them loose either.

Might tune into the news coverage of the riot though ;)

The Oilers have done a pretty good job in some of these games keeping the shots very low since late in the Vancouver series. I'm sure it's to try and shelter Skinner somewhat.

Hockey is nothing more then a blip in the sports radar in 90% of the USA so it’s not a bad take
I get that typical trope and you can continue gatekeeping but the sport has grown in popularity in the states and more American players are coming out of the sunbelt states into the pros and will continue to grow. As much as I hate my Pacific counterparts, the Knights, Kings and Ducks are good for us here on the West Coast.
