Maybe the Oilers will try and give maximum effort in front of their fans, hopefully that’s not too much to ask.

There is exactly 2 other dmen in this entire league on Makar's level and those guys are in the ECF. Also playing on even terms=/=exactly match. Colorado has no match for McDavid ability wise either (lets not pretend MacKinnon is on his level) you just need to make it close enough to stand a chance which MacKinnon can do. Nurse played fine into Colorado's top line and top pairing in the regular season and now he looks like a rich man's Esa Lindell.
If these two games are any indication, Mack is definitely on Mcdavid’s level. Sure Mcdavid is a greater player speed and skill wise but you add Mack’s grit and determination he seems harder to stop than Mcdavid right now. Could change tonight but after watching the first two games Mack is just as good

Hard for me to agree with that when McDavid’s matching MacK’s output despite the garbage puck movement he’s getting from his blueliners.

MacK’s in that next tier with Barkov, Matthews, Kucherov, etc…but McDavid is a step ahead of even those studs.

Having a better series than someone doesn't make you a better player overall, let alone a better first 2 games. Heiskanen had a better series than Makar in 2020 (and might have had the best playoff performance of any player), Marchessault had a better series than MacKinnon last year. Are Heiskanen and Marchessault on Makar's and MacKinnon's level?

Heiskanen is criminally underrated. He might not be on Makar’s level in terms of skating and offence, certainly not in goal scoring or points. However, he’s probably going to age really well because he is bigger than Makar, fox, and Hughes and has the potential to develop a more physical game and become a shut down defenseman that can score as well, someone more multi dimensional. His ceiling is sky high and he has shown his potential in both of his playoff appearances. He was amazing in the worlds too and was a huge part of Finland’s gold medal.

Think Tavares being the correct number 1 pick over Hedman until Tampa won multiple cups type aging well. Now it being clear that Hedman should have went number 1. Or think more Rob Blake/bourque than Leetch/housley.

At first, in a 2017 redraft it would have been Petterssen , makar, and heiskanen. Now it’s makar 1st, heiskanen, and Petterssen 3rd. In 5 years? I wouldn’t be shocked in the slightest if Heiskanen was 1. Hischier is actually turning a corner too now but I doubt he reaches more than 3rd at best. Robertson and Oettinger was in this draft as well, wow. Weak draft ended up being strong. Like heiskanen may never wrestle the number 1 redraft from Makar, but he’s close enough that I wouldn’t be surprised.

This is coming from a Canucks fans, not even a Dallas fan. Heiskanen is that good.

I've got the Avs winning tonight. The only wrinkle is the Oilers finding success by moving McDavid away from the losing Mackinnon/Makar matchup. But I don't see it making that big of a difference because this Avs team is deep. It might be closer, but the result will be the same I feel.

These 2 games are not

McDavid is clearly a better player

That doesn’t mean he is better every game but overall he is a better player

I agree. McDavid is clearly the best player in the world, one series doesn't change that.

However, this series does show that McDavid needs to find other ways to help his team when he's not showing up on the scoreboard. McDavid has all the tools and the IQ to go along with it to be a Selke-level candidate every year, but when I watch him defensively he's just... kind of there.

Also not saying this series is on him, not even close. It's also a bit of an unfair ask of him because he already does so much, but I think if he wants to win with the Oilers, he's going to have to improve other facets of his game.

Yup that doesn’t mean he is better in everything also but his game breaking abilities is unmatched

Sometimes you have to wonder....he has all the confidence in himself one can get....but how draining it is when you lose it in those around you too. I mean, yeah...the focus is on him but it is up to the others to take that focus back.

No he's not.

That's kind of why I specified the Oilers, the team isn't constructed well enough to be considered a deep team, which is why it's always the McDrai show and why the brunt of the pressure and focus are on those two.

Oh Heiskanen is a f***ing beast don't get me wrong. But for me Heiskanen is like the 10th-15th best defenseman in the NHL right now (so still a very solid 1D) with the potential to be higher. Makar for me is just outright #1 above even Fox and Hedman. My point was just that playing better than someone in a 4 to 7 game stretch doesn't make you a better player overall. Otherwise I can start making asinine claims like Hyman>Gaudreau.
