I think this was a deserved draw for both teams. in the third period austria had the better chances, but earlier germany could have scored more goals. i think the tie is ok...

On the paper germany should beat Austria 3-0... :dunno:
be realistic. if you look at the scores of the preliminary round, you'll see that both teams aren't among the creme de la creme of hockey currently...

Anybody know why Jannik Hansen is not playing for Denmark? Injury?

Strained ligament in the shoulder. Time-frame for his recovery unknown, but will definitely not play another game in this tourney.

Edit: His club team Rødovre has now started taking pot-shots at the Danish Hockey Association. It seems Jannik has had problems with the shoulder for a while, and was only able to play because of injections directly into the joint.

Hirsch was replaced after the 3rd AUT goal.

Hmm. Hirsch can be very good when his game is on, but other nights he can be brutal. How is the backup goalie? (and whats his name? ;) )

The back-up goalie is Michael Madsen, a fairly good goalie, the starter for Herlev of the Danish Elite League.

I would much rather talk about Simon Nielsen, the 18-year-old 3rd goalie. His playoff performance clinched the championship for his team, Herning. Not that I would put him on the ice for a win-or-disappear game like the one vs. Germany - he's a bit young for that.

Unbelieveable, Germany scores shorthanded and twice on the powerplay. Even if it's "only" against Slovenia, I wouldn't have thought that they would score a powerplay goal this tournament...

Nice breakaway by Goc for the 1-0 lead.
Schubert with a nice shot to make it 2-0. Kreutzer gets the credit for it, but he wasn't even close to the puck.
Schubert with another shot, this time deflected by someone. Hecht is listed as the scorer, but I'm not sure if it really was a German stick...

Schubert is playing really well, even though he made a mistake against Kopitar. Clearly the best German defender this tournament.

Slovenia - German 1-9 (0-3,0-5,1-1)
3.35 0-1 Goc sh
10.33 0-2 Kreutzer (Schubert, Benda) pp

33.31 0-8 Goc (Kreutzer)

48.26 0-9 Martinec (Ehrhoff)
49.08 1-9 Kontrec (Golicic)

Glavic SLO 14+ 5+=19 (change at 33.31 0-8)

I watched some of the Germany-Slovenia game on TV here in Ljubljana. Ugly.

In my head, I always pronounced Kopitar stressed on the first syllable, but in Slovene, it's something like ko-pee-tar. He looked decent, all things considered.

yup. actress's Eva Green father is a Swedish dentist, her mom though is a french actress. on paper it does sure appear english :)

p.s. she was in the dreamers in the recently released kingdom of heaven which is pretty good.

No, he's born in Denmark. Plays in the SEL though (like the other better Danes..) What makes you think he's canadian? Morten is about as danish a name as you can ever find. And "Green" isn't that uncommon in any scandinavian country.

Ridiculous...
How can you lose this game...

Three small mistakes were enough to let in three goals.
Now Austria has to win or at least get a tie against Slowenia or Germany gets relegated. :shakehead
