Watching Indonesia vs Thailand gold medal game (SEA Games 2025)

I didn't know we (Indonesia) are in the gold medal game. I remember we got beat 6-0 or 7-0 by Thailand and Malaysia in previous games so I stopped paying attention to Indonesian Ice Hockey. It's a huge improvement that we manage to get a medal in SEA Games

And we won the gold medal game 3-2! Scored 2 goals in the last 2 minutes to overturn a 1-2 deficit to a 3-2 win!

Congratulations, nice comeback. At the same time have to say that the result was almost entirely due to former pro-level Russian imports rather than any sudden growth of Indonesian hockey.

Yes, we do that in football too. Ideally we should invest in infrastructure and competition but Indonesian officials like to take shortcuts

From the Thai side, we are pretty disappointed in the team. Even though Indo had the Russian imports (which IMO is extremely low-integrity), Thailand should have won easily.

Im impressed with Thai’s development route, I wouldn’t be too disappointed. I still think Thailand is still the top. I think right it would be hard for any southeast Asian team to top an Indonesian team that’s supplemented by 4 naturalized Russians (2 who have experience in Russia’s U18 league and 2 who have KHL and even AHL experience). On a related note, Im happy with how the Philippines is handling their development program. Lots of talent being developed within the country even though they could spend a lot of money trying to entice the huge Filipino diaspora in North America to become IIHF eligible for the Philippines.

TIMNAS has been ruined. Local talent replaced with Indos from the Netherlands. Paes and Romeny literally have zero Indonesian ancestry.

Even the Super League is being filled with foreign players.

All this isn't going to improve Indonesian football. They still missed the World Cup.
