OT: Watcha Listenin' To? Part VIIII: Nine lives, cat's eyes

Both Metallica and Megadeth aren't really in my regular rotation anymore...was never big into Megadeth but they have some songs I do like..I pretty much now stop with Master of Puppets with Metallica...And Justice has some songs I like but overall meh
I do still retain a bit of Master (specifically Battery) in my head each week when I buy my lottery tix.

Step up to the counter
Handing them my scan card
Got to play the lottery

Lottery!

Lot er eeee!!!

My favorite Megadeth song. Man, they pulled it off....Dave singing while playing those riffs, and Friedman was on freaking fire. RIP Nick Menza too. I tried to play this once on drums like 25 years ago, and, nope. I stay in my lane. Usually if I know a song I can play it. Not this one; it was a hot mess.

As a teenager, I stopped listening to Metallica when they became hugely popular once the video for One came out. Suddenly the people that made fun of me for liking metal were wearing Metallica t-shirts. That was the last album I bought by them (I had it on cassette...CDs weren't a thing yet).

Haha, yeah, it's challenging song for sure! I learned it on bass but could never get it quite clean on guitar.

I rank this as the best metal song ever written. I wore out my first Rust in Peace cassette. Remember Columbia House? That's how I got all my music back then. So I just got another one to replace mine along with 10 other "free" cassettes.

I listened to them for a few more albums after that (Youthanasia, and Cryptic Warning I think it was called?) then my tastes went in a different direction. Came back for the two most recent releases, and saw them on their most recent tour.

This was their best lineup, no question. Friedman was such a great complement to Mustaine and Menza was a powerhouse.

Master remains my favourite Metallica release, and those first four albums were so influential for me. When the Black album came out, I moved on. The production was amazing, the songwriting was tight, the vocals took a huge step up, but for me, the soul of Metallica was gone. It was pop metal.

Not sure if you know this band, but knowing that you're a drummer, you may enjoy Baard Kolstad. I love his approach to drumming and he's fun to watch - dynamics for days.

Well, if any of you were reading the GDT last week, my Dad is in hospice, and is in bad shape.

I visited him on Easter, and we only exchanged a few words back and forth before his eyes rolled back and he was out of it. My sister and I stayed for another half hour or so, then left. Before that, I had said to him that the Phillies were doing well so far this season and he replied, "They won last night." After that he tried to tell me something twice that I couldn't understand even with my ear next to his mouth. I just said, "Ok, I know." Him saying "They won last night," are likely the last words I'll ever hear him say. It's tough.

They put him on regular morphine yesterday. At this point, I don't want to see him suffer any longer and I hope the end comes soon. He's the reason I'm a drummer. This song is fitting, I think. I don't know, I'm a mess right now. Thank you for reading/watching. Sorry to be a downer.

Thanks man, I'm trying. I've been described as stoic my entire life. Women seem to hate it because I don't react...which is why I split last year with a 6 year girlfriend (she broke up with me - I'm loyal to the death). It gets misinterpreted that I don't care. That's not it at all. I probably care too much, but keep most of it in my own head and deal with it there.

Things do affect me, sometimes deeply, but I usually don't make much of an issue about it. This is the worst so far. If he's still around this weekend I want to visit, but I don't because it was hard seeing him last week.

Glad that you've, at least to this point, survived the elevator from hell!

Yeah I get that..I'm very much the same way...went through it with my mom...you selfishly don't want them to go and its torture seeing someone so close just...deteriorate before your eyes..but its for the best in the end when they go so they are no longer suffering

He'll this kinda broke me at work lol lemme go play in rhe elevator 🤣

Today I came across this mp3 saved on my laptop. I remember why I saved it. I heard it in a movie, paused the movie, and saved a copy because I loved it immediately.

It jams, IMO.
