Watch out for those Bruins.

After a slow first half of the season, the Bruins have quietly been on a tear. 11-1-4 in the past 16 games. 7 points out of first. Going to be a dog fight between four teams in the Atlantic.

Chara.. when he breaks again it'll be back to the same ;)

Those 3 Atlantic teams have pretty much kept pace though, and still have a nice little cushion. I'm almost hoping the Bruins have to go through the Metro as a wildcard though, if only to avoid Montreal.

Bruins are a good team. It's scary to think what they could do if they still had Seguin.

While Chara is one of my two favorite players, I think Krejci's return to health has more to do with the Bruins' recent success.

Agreed

Probably not much better, perhaps even worse. There would be smith or Louie. Which would hurt our third line.

Agreed. I think we match-up better to either of the New York teams or Pittsburgh than we do to Montreal or Tampa. I wouldn't like to play Washington though.

Any team without their #1 center and #1 defenseman for most of the beginning of the season would struggle.

Montreal without MaxPac/Subban
Tampa without Stamkos/Hedman

Wouldn't be tops of the league.

Chara has always been healthy most of his career, since 2000 the least amount of games before this year he has played has been 71.

Huh? Did you forget about the part where Stamkos broke his leg in half last season? We remained near the top pretty much the whole time.

Conveniently leaving out the #1 defenseman aspect of his post, kinda an important part IMO

Our biggest need is a top 4 dman. Going into the playoffs I don't want McQuaid paired with Seidenberg. Kinda funny we traded Boychuk and now he is exactly what we are missing.

We could use a top 6 RW, but Pastrnak has filled that role so far.

Chara has always been healthy most of his career, since 2000 the least amount of games before this year he has played has been 71.

Not only that, but I think he's missed only a handful of games in his NHL career due to injury/illness. From the time he signed with the Bruins in the 2006-7 season to the time his injured his knee this season, he missed 8 games due to injury. (Not sure if illness is included; I remember he was absent one game last season due to some bug going around.) He's had a smattering of "we're in the playoffs already" scratches in April, but as far as true injury, he's been stainless steel until this year.

There's a thread in the Bruins forum showing the projected number of points we'd have if we only counted games with Chara and/or Krejci, and I think all combos are well in the 100s. Granted, it's a small sample size, highly susceptible to variation. But as a Bruins fan, it makes me more optimistic; I also remember seeing stats soon after Chara returned showing that we were better off without him than we were with him. He just needed a couple of games to shake off the rust. We're now on a pretty good streak - we've earned a point in the standings in every non-CBJ game since 12/21.

I do think that, strategically, the Bruins would be VERY lucky to snag the Metro WC spot. I would rather take any of the 4 Metro teams over the Habs - and any of them besides Pittsburgh over the Lightning.

Of course, being on the right side of the bubble is dangerous - one losing streak, and we're on the wrong side. Plus, as a Bruins fan, a Habs/Bruins game is always the most fun to watch...next to a game where we win the Cup.

As an Isles fan, they are the top dog in the East IMO. I've thought that for the past 3-4 years pretty much and it hasn't changed, even with the obvious downgrades this season. They are a tough team, last team I'd personally want to meet in the playoffs.

Bounced as soon as they face the Habs.

Bring them on. Let's see how the Habs do if Chara doesn't have a broken hand for them to slash for the last 5 games of a series and a healthy Lucic that doesn't need shoulder surgery.

It is always going to be tough to play the Habs but if they get beat then they get beat. Montreal will deserve it if they win.

How many posts did Marchand hit in that series? I seem to remember hearing a lot of pings.

Despite giving up 40 SOG, they looked pretty solid vs. the Isles the other night. Seems they've been under the radar due to the slow start, but they could definitely challenge most if not all of the Eastern Conference teams with their elite goaltending and physicality. Playoffs will be interesting!
