Do many, or any, other clubs have hockey ops roles above GM?

President of Hockey Ops? I'd say like half. To me, I have always seen it as a redundant role.

Not an exhaustive list but off the top of my head...

I think team presidents or CEOs etc.. ?

BA reported directly to XG I thought , wouldn’t this be similar?
XG didn't have final authority over trades or draft selections. That was Bill's domain.
This new role is the top "hockey job", so Chris will have authority over those hockey transactions.

I’d guess at least 1/3 to 1/2 of the league has a President of Hockey Ops. It’s a normal role. But generally when you become the President of hockey ops in the best hockey league in the world you have some experience in … ya know…hockey … ops…

Bill has worked in every position in hockey ops. Chris has been an agent...for golfers...and Dubas.

I read an article that Bill will be reporting directly to Chris, and if I'm reading in between the lines, this suggests that after meeting w/Bill Armstrong and going over the plan that they aren't in agreement.

If they were in agreement, no reason to 'hire' Chris Armstrong as the GM & Owner are on the same page.

No matter how you look at it, it's going to limit BA authority to do what he wanted. He's no longer the pinnacle hockey ops guy.

True, but setting a budget and having direct linear control over hockey ops are two different jobs. The GM can work relatively unfettered under the auspices of the first so long as he stays within the budget, but that's not true for the second.
What do u think is more likely. He’s a conduit to ownership and the business side of things or as someone who has zero experience in hockey as an agent he is going to meddle on drafting, roster development, and or scouting?

He's hockey ops, right? So that indicates the second option.

Everyone has a boss. I’m a CEO. I still answer to a Board.

If it was a conduit position, I would expect it to be something like COO or CEO, not President of Hockey Operations. The latter implies the rubber stamp for all roster decisions, signings, trades, etc., not just business or franchise oversight.
