Orlov brings scoring as an offensive defenseman. He skates very well, has a cannon of a shot and he can dangle like a skilled forward.

Unfortunately for the Canucks, he's not for sale.

Ok let me put this a different way, we need top 6 forwards who can score. If we are trading our 2nd, I would hope it would be in a package for that.

Plus Orlov is worth a lot more than a 2nd rounder.

Sounds fair.

Orlov gets moved for a roster player now...maybe futures in the summer if anything. Caps say no to this deal today.

Caps don't need picks in win-now mode. Sorry, trade does nothing for us. Valid value but just not what we need.

We have a logjam in defense our average defensemen at best, Orlov would be a great addition though, especially at that price of the OP.

Benning has constructed his wonderful defense though so it wouldn't happen.

Very very true! Orlov however would have to return a vet defender to be worth it in win-now mode.

Always thought something around Orlov and Hamhuis with picks to balance things would have made sense for both teams, but that's obviously in the past.

Maybe at the deadline when the Canucks are in the basement, we hopefully have a new GM/President and something can be worked around Orlov and a top pick/prospect for Edler.

What about the expansion draft?

Caps need to protect Carlson, Alzner and Niskanen. They'd lose Edler for nothing.

That being said i would still like to add Edler at the TDL. Just not willing to pay anything more than a regular top rental price. Not Orlov + top pick/prospect.

Washington: 2017 2nd round pick + conditional pick

Vancouver: Dmitri Orlov

Thoughts?
I like Orlov, but the Canucks would not be able to properly protect him in the expansion draft. Offer us a young, top six forward instead. We can protect a forward if we have too & expose Hansen.Other wise offer a RFA player, forward or defense that will be exempt for the draft or waivers.

Do you think Marcus Johansson would've been a good fit for the Canucks? He's a young top 6 forward that can play both wings and centre.

Doubt Kuznetsov will be moved.

What about an Orlov and Johansson package?

Would prefer to chase Oshie IMHO as he fits our need for a better 2RW who is more of a shooting offence guy than the 2way Hansen. Oshie isn't a slouch on the 2way game either.
MoJo isn't a fit with Eriksson signed. We have so many LH Top6 players and no RH shooter with the loss of Vrbata.
