OT: Washington Commanders 2025-26 thread | Football is fun again Edition

That's what I was thinking when hoping for Simmons. As if facing Parsons 2x a year isn't bad enough, now we get Carter twice as well.

However they deploy the pieces, the important thing is we get a lot better right away.

Big unanswered question now is, who fills the other G slot until Cosmi gets back (which might not even be this season?)
Could be Coleman, Wyle or Connerly.

Is there something wrong with me? I'm dying for Rd 2 mock drafts before the first is officially over.

I think I'm just gonna go to bed, and then when I wake up, it'll be like Christmas morning.

2 sacks allowed in 1063 snaps over two years starting every game. Not too bad. Also only 6 hurries last year. A true left tackle, will play RT or guard until Tunsil phases out then be our LT for the next 8+ years.

Seems like Conerly might not have the ideal strength, but has the athleticism to play the Commies style of pulling often and getting to the second level. Especially for zone reads and zone blocking, which is great for Jayden RPOs.

Has the fastest 10 yard split time of all OL at combine with 1.71 seconds.

He can play outside or inside. So it looks like it will be competition between him and Coleman.

And this way, it will be competition all throughout the OL to field the best 5. Because all of them are pretty versatile.

I'm warming to the pick. In a division with Jalen Carter, Micah Parsons, and hell, NYG loaded up again today with Abdul Carter, gotta keep Jayden upright.

Yea, let’s start with NFL caliber player first and then see if he can play tackle.

Beefing up the line should open up the playbook - we had to play 12/13 personnel a lot to help block last year.

29. Washington Commanders -- Josh Conerly Jr., T, Oregon
Why they picked him: Washington wants to build a fortress in front of quarterback Jayden Daniels. It has revamped its offensive line this offseason by trading for Laremy Tunsil and by drafting Conerly, who can play either guard or tackle. In three of the last four regular-season games, Daniels' sack percentage was 10.4 or higher and the pressure percentage 37.5 or greater. Daniels can run, but he's a passer first and this should provide him more chances to hang in the pocket and throw the ball. Washington can now envision its starting five for the next several years with Tunsil, Conerly, guard Sam Cosmi, center Tyler Biadasz and Brandon Coleman.

Biggest question: Where will Conerly play? Tunsil will start at left tackle, of course. Washington can either move Conerly or last year's rookie left tackle Coleman to right tackle with the other one inside. Conerly started for the past two seasons at left tackle but some teams viewed him as a guard, according to a league source. He has the size and arm length to stay at tackle. Conerly won't be handed a starting job, but he should find a home along the front sooner than later.-- John Keim

Seems like ALL the coaches wanted Conerly. Dan Quinn and Kliff Kingsbury most of all.

That pretty much seals it for me. If Kliff and the rest of the coaches liked him that much, who am I to say otherwise? 😆

I feel much better about it than Ron Rivera's picks. That's certain at least.

Good. Winning teams are built from the LOS outward, and if you have a young franchise QB you start with the OL.

I'd wager they move this guy to LG instead of RT and just keep JD's blindside completely locked down, while allowing the other players from last year to improve where they stand.
