OT: Washington Commanders 2025-26 thread | Football is fun again Edition

We've traded quite a few draft picks for experienced, high level vets (ML, Samuel, Tunsil) so we aren't going to get really young this year. And we are going to be down a few picks next year as well. AP will have to wheel and deal a bunch to bring in talented youth in the next few years. We do have a handful of our last year later round picks which may contribute more this year. The Safety and the LB we drafted late are two folks who have a chance to step up.

The good news is, we're young and great at the hardest position to fill, so that makes everything else easier.
💯

We just don’t want fall into a total “win now” trap. The Caps and Nats both won it when they didn’t have their best roster on paper. The idea is you open a window of 6-10 legitimate shots. Heck, it could be more if Jayden has a long, HoF style career.

Injury concern?

KK offense seems to need a scat back type who can take a 5 yard screen to tbe house

Austin was a nice plug but I’d love to get a younger version

Would love a younger zone type TE as well to replace Ertz but I guess that’s put off for another year

In Adam we trust
While I've liked all of the picks for vets deals individually, I think at some point you have to draw a line and invest in the draft. Breece is a pretty good line to me -- not a premium position nor one of immediate need and a player who is neither a bona-fide top option for his position (Tunsil, Lattimore at least in theory) nor a buy-low reclamation project (Deebo, Wagner, Ertz, Ekeler).

I understand what you are saying. I would disagree that an explosive backfield option is not a premium position. Especially if you have SB aspirations, an explosive back is a premium position.

RB by committee was a fine approach under Mike Shanahan and football in the early 2000s. RB by committee is fine if you dont have an explosive back, then you need a B Rob and an Ekeler and teams get tipped off a bit on play calls.

Now teams consider these high completion quick passing calls as a run play.

KK has said this repeadetly .. lots of the more explsoive OC say this. With the right personnell (Breece), so much more upside

Eagles got Shaquan
9ers got McCaf

Breece Hall is absolutely worth a 4th plus Luke or our 2nd w a 3rd or 4th coming back

IMO

In peters we trust

** I imagine Deebo takes away some of the need for a go go gadget type explosive near the LOS player

A premium RB can put a contending team over the edge, no disagreement with that. I think

1) Breece is not Saquan/CMC/Henry
2) The rest of the roster still has some pretty meaningful talent deficits both in the short and long term

Keep the picks

Breece is also a year away from a new contract. A draft pick RB would be 4 years away. Given the depth of the position in the draft, I'm happily taking a 3rd/4th/5th round RB. [I know we don't have a 3rd or 5th rounder right now, but we could trade back for additional picks]

This. Just use our 3rd or 4th on a RB in this draft. Or trade just the 4th for Hall. Sending Luke and a 3rd or 4th is overpay.

Everyone is tweeting about draft visits from prospects and I'm just glad that we aren't hearing anything about topgolf this year. Not that the concept was bad (it's a great bonding concept) but hearing about it was more prevalent when there were high picks involved. Probably a lot of late rounders this year

I am happy with whoever/whenever AP and the gang pick. Or trade down (or up!).

Benefit of the doubt is very much earned already, so let’s see what happens.

IF I were to choose a position, I’d rather OL, DL, or DB. Personally.

BUT, a stud RB would be pretty dynamic in this offense. Would open up even more for JD5, allows the OL to dictate terms more, and controls the clock.

I can easily get on board with that thought process.

How would people feel about taking omarion hampton at #29?
How about trade back and take TreVeyon Henderson. He would be a dynamic, versatile playmaker for an offense that needs em. Kinda guy you give 12-15 touches (in a variety of ways) to get some explosive plays.

He's also already good in pass pro, esp for a prospect - can succeed Ekeler as the 3rd down back.

Rather they target a real speedster down a little later in the draft as an Ekler successor. Robinson did have a pretty meh year last year.

This draft is crazy to me. Last year it was so obvious what we needed and we had 5 picks in the first three rounds including the obvious gift from the heavens at 2 overall that landed us JD. This year our needs are much more muddy and we have only two late picks in the first three rounds. We could draft a RB, and OL, a WR, an Edge a CB, LB or S in the 1st or 2nd round this year and it would be a fine pick as long as the player actually pans out. Hoping for a trade down and more bites at the apple so to speak. But mock drafting this year has been uninspiring to say the least.

I suspect, if we don't trade down, we'll take which ever faller lands in our lap at 29 and 61. Could literally be any position including DL.

Not going to lie, i'm going to watch the Day 1 expecting the Commanders to make 0 picks. I'm propably more surprised if we actually make our own pick. Trading down a bit just makes too much sense but i'm sure they'll see what's out there. If there is a faller they are high on then sure, go for it.

I think we end up with 0 picks on Day 1 and 3 picks on Day 2.

Really doesn’t make much sense after bringing back, Marcus
But I guess having four quarterbacks is good?
I like bringing in vets during offseason and part of PS ...
you get them in, get them somewhat familiar w staff

let them go in August

December, if youre decimated w injuries, you already have some familiarity w a vet on his couch waiting for the call

This wont count against the cap, its just Josh Harris' summer money ...

Watching the whole draft unfold on day 1 only to find we're not making a pick is going to suck. Not as much as sending $21,754 to the IRS today, but it will suck nonetheless. At least CA gave me $12,500 of my own money back, which will be like making 3 picks on Day 2. Cool, but not going to get me too excited.

I owed 1.1k to that tax man and I thought that was annoying. I used to get money back those very special tax cuts to the wealthy 2017 stopped that.

29. Washington Commanders: Emeka Egbuka, WR, Ohio State
It was hard to pass on Donovan Ezeiruaku, who would fill a big need for the Commanders at pass rusher. But the idea of adding a polished receiver such as Egbuka would be an appealing option — and would move Washington one step closer to an all-Ohio State receiving depth chart.

1 (29). WR Emeka Egbuka, Ohio State
2 (61). Edge Oluwafemi Oladejo, UCLA
4 (128). RB DJ Giddens, Kansas State
6 (205). LB Jack Kiser, Notre Dame
7 (245). G/C Jonah Monheim, USC

city close to a 3 billion dollar stadium deal

Of course, by the time tariffs kick in, it will be a $4B project.
