The first pass out of the defensive zone has always been his strength, solid passer, very good on the PK, he's a good skater but his acceleration took a big hit last year probably because he was banged up and it was an all hands on deck situation and he had to play a ton. Needs to play better than he did at the end of the year top play top 4 but possible.

Jensen is a mobile, defensive D-Man who is capable of moving the puck well. At his best, he's excellent at neutral zone play in both directions, both denying zone entries and gaining the zone in the other direction. Even at his worst, he's still good at getting the puck out of his own D Zone with control. Doesn't provide much offensively.
The difficulty comes with the most recent season, where his play took a nose dive. Previously he had handled shutdown and PK assignments very well, and tilted the ice away even despite playing against top lines. However, this past year, he struggled at stopping zone entries and his match-up play was pretty brutal as a result. He was hesitating too much, and appeared to be overthinking things, so there's reason to suspect that changes to the defensive system with a new Head Coach in Washington could have been a big contributing factor. So some patience may be warranted with him, and there could be a chance he rebounds as he becomes comfortable with a system. Prior to his disappointing 2023-24 season, he had definitely been a Top 4 D Man.

That game got one of my college roommates into hockey. Sadly, since he was an obnoxious a hole, he hitched up to the penguin bandwagon that spring.

I'm lower on Chychrun than most but I certainly think he's a top 4 D and his acquisition cost was basically nothing.
I'd hold off on signing him to a contract extension though. Might even consider flipping him at the TDL if he's not a great fit.

Not going to bash Jensen here since he was great for us for years but obviously on the decline now. Chychrun has his flaws too but the sky-high potential is there and they basically signed a (on paper) perfect D pair for him for 6 years too in Roy.

Why are the Sens doing this? Chychrun was a prized acquisition for the Sens, and he ends up playing only 1 full season with them before being unceremoniously dumped for a decaying Jensen and a 3rd rounder 2 years from now. It’s sorta like PLD - after welcoming him with great fanfare, they couldn’t get rid of him fast enough

They interviewed some Sens -journalist and he basically said that they tried to sign free agent RD's and none of them were willing to come there so they had to target RD's via trade that didn't have any trade protection. Slim pickings.
Overall, they really needed RD, perhaps a bit defensive one, rather than LD. So they really put a lot of value on Jensen in here.
