Losing is not the issue, getting absolutely dominated in every facet is the issue. Guys look like they went out drinking before the game. They look slow and tired. The Carolinas and Winnipegs may lose games but not like this.

We’ll see but this is not a game that gives confidence they can win game 4.
Blues just destroyed the Jets 6-1 in Game 3!

Lindgren will have a chip on his shoulder. He started his NHL career with the Habs and gave up on him.

I think so too. He was team MVP last year in my book and now it's his time to step up. Either way I'm off to watch Kings/Oilers game and forget this game. Hopefully SC lights the team up and they refocus for next game.

On a night when very few Capitals decided to play, Trevor van Riemsdyk led the team with a 60% xG share and didn't concede. That earns him tonight's game puck.

Ryan Leonard gets my only HM.

Let's be real, 4 of their 5 goals were unforced gifts. It wasn't some sort of dominating game for them, it was about what the Caps failed to execute.
I mean they had like 40+ shots, sure seemed like domination. I agree on the unforced turnover issue but they still got caved tonight with all that

I feel very bad for LT, but one thing I didn't like, he was keeping too many pucks in play instead of getting the whistle. It's a good way to slow the game down and allow your team to have more fresh people on the ice.

Also need to make quicker plays out of the zone! If you don't have the forecheck going, you can still slow down the faster opponent taking away their gained speed in the neutral zone.

Just about every variety of stupid was in full display in this one. Hard to do. Big picture, particularly with Thompson now in doubt, do they have the horses? Do they have the stamina to regroup, reel it in and elevate? This blueline looks kind of cooked and the top six often not a great deal better. When McMichael and Mangiapane are the most consistent attackers and TVR the most reliable D...

Gonna need way better from basically every key player next game. Protas back would help in a lot of areas but, man, so much filler and jankyness.

Terrible take. They got thoroughly outskated and their mistakes were forced by the constant forecheck of the Habs, they never had time and space to make a thought-out move out the zone. That said, that's when you see if you have a playoff caliber D lineup and who on it is actually a fraud.

Still pretty upset someone please just reply to this. I’m not gonna read up for a while.

Who didn’t ice the puck when Logan still had his stick broken?

that was so bad

It actually was a few chances to ice it and no one had the brains to get a whistle. The whole team played dumb and slow, most of the game.

When did the last team win the Cup 16 - 0. When was there a Cup winner that had no bad games in their run and nver needed to dig down and regroup after a loss.

This team can dig down and rise to the occasion.

Practical question is how is LT... Chuckie can rise to the occasion. We have seen him shine. Will they have to go with Dobes?? BigPro can help too.

A win on Sunday is a statement .

What puzzles me is Strome had a game brain fart in that moment. A hockey stop would have extremely softened the blow on LT.
Agree that was very strange. Maybe he caught an edge? I figured he would also get one hand off his twig.

Vs a 2 hand full throat/chops cross check.

I see all the doom and gloomers have dusted off their keyboards. Almost like they were waiting for the Caps to slip up...

Let's put this game in perspective. We knew we probably weren't going to win every game in this series and we knew this was going to be the most difficult game so far. Montreal threw everything but the kitchen sink at them. Not to mention, the Caps had their worst game of the post-season so far and the game was still tied and winnable in the 3rd period.

Some thoughts:

The referees decided to start calling penalties again and the Caps didn't adjust very well. Tom Wilson being gone for most of the third period threw the whole team off and things quickly spiraled out of control when Montreal seized the momentum. Not a smart decision by Tom to let Anderson goad him. Montreal will take that trade anytime.

Caps were turnover machines in their own zone tonight. You can't play that way and expect to win. I suspect the amped up Bell Centre and energy it gave to the Habs played a role in them getting away from their gameplan. They need to settle down and be more deliberate with breakout passes.

Carbery needs to do a better job with line matchups against their top line. There were several times where we had an unfavorable matchup on the ice and they made us pay or kept us hemmed in the defensive zone for long stretches. If we shut down their top line, we will win the series.

They need to slow the game down. In high energy hostile environments on the road, you need to freeze the puck and get as many stoppages as you can. It disrupts the flow of the game and helps to dissapate the home teams momentum.

We played too much of the game in the middle of the ice where Montreal's small speedy forwards have an advantage. We're bigger and more physical and should be playing on the walls where we know we will win more battles. Protas coming back will make a huge difference here. He is the embodiement of the kind of hockey the Caps need to play. I hope he's back in the next game.

Hopefully, Thompson is ok. That was a pretty boneheaded play by Strome. I think we can still win the series with Lindgren if LT can't go, but it would hurt our odds of advancing in round two.
