don't see the price being too high.. 7 goals and 16 assists as a big body physical player and only 22 his offensive game could still develop further.

I think this is a very fair contract.

Good deal. Basically the qualifying offer
It's more than twice the QO. It's a bit high, especially considering he didn't have arbitration leverage and there can't be many strong comparables to make more.

The best you can say about it I guess is it avoids anyone's ridiculous offer sheet (on the offhand chance that was a possibility). It's manageable enough I guess but I suspect it gets the clock running on Wilson proving he's more than a fourth liner. If he doesn't prove it by the time this deal is up he's probably elsewhere.

This guy was clearly rushed to the NHL. He has played a total of 2 AHL games, needed more to become a power forward. If they're okay with him being an enforcer, okay deal I guess, but the league is moving away from enforcers.

Guy could play like a 4m player if he just stopped running around. We will see what Tom wants to do with his career.

Seems a bit high. I think most fans were speculating in the $1.5M ballpark. Wilson didn't have arbitration rights, either. Not much negotiating leverage from Wilson's camp, and his stats don't really back up a $2M payday. This puts him in the same ballpark as a 2nd contracts for players like Sam Gagner, Patrik Berglund, and David Perron (all of which had 49+ point seasons on their resumes at the time of their 2nd deals).

Doubt it. Martin is good at hitting at least

Fixed that for you. Martin is a 1 demensional 4th line winger. He runs around hitting people, meanwhile, his team is outshot, and outchanced with him on the ice. Without fail. When you factor in the rumor that martin will be looking for 3-4M a season, HA.

Caps would have been smarter locking him up long term. This guy is a game changer and if he hits the open market in two years there will be a huge bidding war for his services. Every team want's a Tom Wilson on it.

He would still be an RFA

If Martin ends up getting that much I'll be surprised.

And to be fair on the bolded, that is pretty much true of most 4th liners that are defensive specialists.
