I know there's a thread but was wondering how split the votes would be between him and the other candidates.

If anyone else should be added to the poll lmk.

Probably not, but Carolina’s win was such a team effort that it made it really easy for the media to pick the “good story” winner rather than someone from Carolina’s 3rd line.

He feels like an appropriate choice for the award for this team. Not sure I can really explain it

I’m neutral and couldn’t fathom anyone else getting it. Dude set a variety of records while playing elite shutdown hockey. No one else should even be in the conversation.
Yeah I'm not necessarily arguing against that.

Again, I made this poll to see who HF thinks should have won. Did the same last year with Bennett's Smythe too. It's just for fun to see how HF may differ than the people voting for the awards

I have no argument for anyone else. This thread is dumb.

Correct choice is subjective you can make arguments for others

Good choice? Sure he had 6 goals in the finals and those games should carry more weight

Hall and Stank didn't play anywhere close to the level of defense that Staal did.

He also scored the most goals in the Finals, and obviously provided the most intangibles as the leader and captain.

Staal was the correct choice.

Yea and his hot streak the last week really helped him out. Voters were seeing his impact in live action.

1000% yes

alot of Canes players were equally as effective but it was a no brainer that it went to the veteran guy who is the captain of the team

Shutdown top lines all 4 rounds, faceoff beast, dominance at all strengths, first to score goals in 5 straight games in a SCF since even many HFBoards posters parents were in diapers. Yes
Pretty much sums it up. And clutch. What a performance.

Congrats again, Caners.

There were no standouts on Carolina. Their starting goalie got rightfully yanked in the final. Maybe Bussi wins if this happens in the 2nd round. Their leading scorer Hall while a great story himself, wasnt a cant miss pick.

This is a case where giving it to the Selke level shutdown C who scored some very big goals in the final makes perfect sense.

There was no clear standout. Total team effort. Giving it to the two-way captain that scored a bunch of goals in the finals makes the most sense.
