Was Cozens the problem?

Check out the TOI for our centers the last 7 games or so. One thing you'll notice (which surprised me) is that McLeod is first in TOI or nearly first in almost all of the games for centers. So it seems like since Cozens was traded McLeod is taking the tough matchups as our 1C or 2C depending on your perspective. I think that's an upgrade on Cozens. McLeod plays way smarter, has the speed to get back into the play when he makes a mistake, and is 100x better in his own zone. Maybe his offensive ceiling is lower than Cozens, but he plays center way better (even considering the team is on a PDO bender during that time).

- Dahlin noted after Krebs stood up for Kulich, the locker room felt different. This was a little over a week after the trade.
- touching on the above, the guys look more engaged mentally and physically as well.

I don't think the trade has anything to do with the members sticking up for each other. It's more just coincidence as to who was on the ice when something happened. Krebs standing up for Kulich was great. I love that he's willing to do that, but he just happened to be on the ice at the time.

If something goes down, our response would probably be lacking the majority of the time.
If that happened again you might get Peterka/Power/Sammy on the ice, and nothing happens. Having no initial response like that really deflates the team.

This team as built does not have enough grit to be successful.

Power and Sammy have been getting more and more into the scrums after the whistle. Sammy especially, since it is usually Dahlin starting shit.

It feels like the locker room took a collective sigh when Cozens was traded. Whether it was trade drama or the room realizing Cozens shouldn't be in the spots he Is in

McLeod is the new 2C and Kulich is the new misfit line center; a role with no identity, just guys who don’t fit on other lines.

What they should do is get an actual top 6 center.

I can't say if he was the problem in the room since I've been disengaged pretty heavily anything Sabres since November but I can say seeing him a lot even before the NHL.

Whatever team moves him to the wing will reap the rewards.

His play for Team Canada wasn't flukey, this organization just can't develop or put players in a winning position unless they are Dahlin/Eichel or Reinhart calibre players and that starts at the top.

No one currently in the organization knows anything about winning from the owner on down.

I've asked this question before and will ask again....we traded a decent pick for Beck right? (not trying to debate that fact, it seemed to catch many off guard is what it is). He was advertised as gritty and willing to throw if necessary. I was actually kinda excited for him as an addition. Where has he been?! I'd love to know his actual thoughts. He's gotta be pissed watching Washington do well and get all this media attention with OV and now he's stuck in Buffalo.....I just haven't even really seen the push back from him I'd expect following the trade.
