He has been. San Jose isn't looking to be competitive next year and apparently want to hang Askarov out to dry.... if they move Walman and Ferraro their only defensemen under contract from teh current roster will be Liljegrin, Desharnais, Thrun with Jack Thopson as a RFA.

I'm not sure Walman is the perfect "type" of defenseman that the Oilers should be chasing. I think his hot start was a bit of a mirage and he's not the most consistent guy decision making and positionally, but he does play hard, and he certainly will sacrifice the body to block a shot.

Here are his season splits:

2024: 31 GP, 25 Pts, +4
2025: 19 GP, 7 Pts, -5

His 2025 is more representative of his career if we are being honest.

All that said...he can munch minutes and provide a genuine top 4 option. At this point, that is still a welcomed addition.

Cost will be interesting - is his value based on the first half of this season or the several years worth of resume that surrounds it?

I still can't believe Detroit paid to get rid of Walman. He's not perfect and like I said, his first 30 games this season is IMO an absolute mirage. But he's still a very useful defenseman.

Can you give a breakdown or scouting report on Walman? I haven't watched him much this year
