How is this thread still going lol. I check in daily to see if there's something about lalonde kicking rocks or maybe a trade, instead this walman thread is bumped back to the top. 🤣

I'm beginning to wonder if he asked for a trade considering Fester demoted and scratched him.

If you look at the situation, it's pretty typical for a player to get traded to a cellar team when they ask to be traded. Maybe Grier got greedy and asked for a 2nd, and Stevie caved in.

Sometimes people make prefabricated public statements to control the narrative but from what he said it sounded like he was both surprised and bummed.

Walman is like an ex girlfriend to some that they cant let go of. Instead of checking social media for posts about her, and for pictures of her with a new man... you check Hockeydb and his stats and reminisce about him even though it was a toxic relationship in the first place.

Come on, give us some slack. This is like when you dump your ex for getting fat, and then the ex goes on to lose 50 pounds. Meanwhile you yourself gain 50 pounds and get a heavy breath walking to the fridge.

It's just tough not to think what could've been!:D

I like this ex-girlfriend anology, you can also say that she probably would not have lost those 50 pounds if she remained in the relationship.

more like we got married but then they got injured and put on some weight and when we went on a sudden health kick for the new year we got pissed and paid to get a divorce because they weren't enthusiastic enough for our liking about joining in and doing so themselves right after recovering from their injury

now here we are after paying a bunch of money for the divorce and we're back off our health kick and as lazy as we ever were and meanwhile she's actually over her injury and lost the weight she put on during it

Maybe she was just a cheating, no good for nothing @!=+×! And you had to get rid of her before you came home and she took your dog and your truck!

Thanks.

Sounds like he was playing injured when he did play. Explains why he sucked at the end of last season. He couldn't win a board battle to save his life, and looked slow at times.

If Fester got rid of a player because the player wasn't putting out enough effort while injured, then I think the issue is Fester. In any case, I'm sure he's done after this season, maybe earlier.

Yeah if the reason ever does come out and its something incredibly trivial I would be mad too.

The fact Yzerman moved him, in itself is a reason. He didn't want him around anymore. Case closed.
At some point in life, we all reach an age where a grown-up telling us "because I said so" is no longer a valid excuse for questionable orders. If you haven't been paying attention, this team he's assembled is as disinterested in competing as they are dog shit.

Truthfully, had Yzerman not attached the 2nd rounder to get rid of a contract extension he had just handed out, one that quite easily would have been claimed off waivers by any team trying to reach the cap floor, I doubt people care as much. But people love a good metaphor, and the Walman saga has been emblematic of Yzerman's tenure.

Not sure if you follow the Lions at all, but when the dust settles on this saga, I'm predicting this move will be judged similarly to when Matt Patricia/Bob Quinn traded Quandre Diggs and Darius Slay for being "locker room problems."

Prepare yourself to be mad.

In the end, Fester will die knowing that getting rid of Sprong and Walman caused the end of his coaching career. I really doubt he gets another head coaching gig. Despite the shitty play, the Wings are only 8 points out of a playoff spot, and I'm sure having Sprong and Walman would have given the Wings a few more points.
