so do we get a backup goalie on waivers?

I guess we're set for now. But I would have prefered an Andrew Hammond like goalie with NHL experience as Primeau's backup in Laval. And then if Monty or Allen get injured that goalie could be called up instead of Primeau.

I know Habs have particular needs but I'd pick up ANY player, even a winger if they're an upgrade on what we currently have and can fit into the lineup. Beggars can't be choosers and Habs are most definitely beggars at this point. Even if it's just to flip at the deadline, an asset is an asset.

He has an AHL deal so he can't be called up

Yeah, exactly my point. Not the right situation. Hopefully if there's an injury, they tear up that contract and give him an NHL deal.

Keeping a lookout for possible waiver pickups particularly to fill that RHD position.

A few teams started waiving players today including this potential solution

We already have 3 RD who would be on waivers if we were a better team: Savard, Wideman and Bowey. And then we have one waiver-exempt guy - Barron.

That is not a lot of contracted RHD, and no quality.

Though while I had Ratcliffe on my ND list at the draft....interesting name nonetheless.

Well, there was one waiver claim today! Arizona takes Jonas Johansson (G) from Colorado.

I don't know how he keeps getting claimed. This guy is worse than Montembeault. Horrible goalie. There's no way Monty clears waivers.

What good players were claimed off waivers at the start of the previous seasons?

Arizona only had one goalie signed, so they jumped on the first one available on waiver. But yes, Monty will get claimed if waived, he's an upgrade on a few backups around the league.

Our roster is pretty full, so is our cap. We suck, but we got like 5 lines of NHL forwards.

Thanks Bergy.

We have 16 forwards not even counting Slaf. With Byron on IR that's 15. That means you have space for 6 Ds and 2 Gs. We already know who the goalies are going to be.

On D you have Savard, Edmundson, Matheson, Wideman for sure, with Edmundson potentially on IR. That means you have 3 spots.

Guhle, Harris and Schueneman seem to be battling for those spots, with Barron/Norlinder/Xhekaj/Bowey being the odd men out. If you claim someone on waivers, that means one of Guhle/Harris/Schune has to go down too.

Not only that, but once Byron and Edmundson are healthy, you have to send down 2 more bodies.

And like I said, that's still not counting Slafkovsky, or even Heineman for that matter.

There is just way too many bodies right now.

The Habs should have scoured the projected opening lineups to see who might be available. I`ll be a bit surprised if they don`t claim someone, given the chance at everyone who comes on waivers before the season and a few weeks after. It`s hard to find dmen though, teams go out of their way to hang on to them (remember Florida and Noah Juulsen who should have been offered back to the Habs when they weren`t playing him).
