Man, at first I was in that thread to argue, but seeing how worked up they are over it, I'm just feeding the flames now.

The good news is that the Checkers lost in a shootout last night, so there's no help coming from within this organization. The fail is systemic.

I realize we have a much smaller fan base, but it amazes me how much more knowledge the Hurricanes fans on here are compared to fans of some of the other teams. Maybe if we had the Facebook crew posting here I wouldn't be able to say that.

The brutal reality is that we have no bandwagoners. The folks that hang around this board are serious hockey fans, so we have a lot less than our fair share of knuckleheads these days.

I spent about 450 on tonight's game.
122 for the hotel, 50 on gas, 80 on food, and club seats.

I just don't get how some of these people can be like zomg karma **** you Ward **** you right up the *****.

No, karma was the ref calling that play off to begin with considering Brassard should have been called for a very obvious GI.

We still have bandwagoners (I work with a couple dozen), just not here... thank god for that.

I think that HF is generally harder to find than the traditional outlets. With everything being pretty immersive in the facebook experience, we have less people joining. Plus, this is a pretty intimidating board to have an unpopular opinion on. We've all been on the wrong side of that a few times, but most of us aren't babies and can move on from being summarily discredited by each other on one issue or another. But I can see why someone browsing might decide to stay browsing when they come across such an instance. I know for a fact that we've run a few people off of these boards that we might consider on the facebook spectrum.

I've literally been told as much by people Vagrant, including a couple non-Canes media types I know.

"I couldn't handle that place, you're absolutely all over eachother when someone's clearly wrong or being controversial about something. Not saying you're wrong about that either, I just couldn't handle that place. You guys simply seem to be on another level when it comes to being fans."

I found it funny how many times the word "disgusting" was used to describe Ward's actions.

We got outworked, except for when we went balls to the wall in OT. Ward is the only reason we have one point, and even he needed a little bit of luck on his side.

And yes, this board is intimidating to outsiders, both in attitude and the level of knowledge most of you guys possess. Before I came here, I looked around me and thought I knew hockey better than most people. Among casual fans, that's probably still true, but this board is on a whole other level that I can barely scratch the surface of. It's like going from Mediocre State University to the Ivy League and I'm just starting to figure things out, which is why I tend to keep my mouth shut unless I'm sure I know what I'm talking about.

I don't think we are any more right than other places. We just have much more informed stupid opinions.

It's a combination of things. We're definitely more knowledgeable (on the whole) than a lot of other places, but we're also more pessimistic and bitter (on the whole) than a lot of other places.

Thus, when an outsider comes in, their opinion is generally poorly received unless it flows with the groupthink of the board and the negative vibe this board gets sometimes can feel like its directed at them rather than simply being the result of many, many years of many, many terrible games.
