This was one of my favorite draft classes in a long time -- I don't even think Arizona did poorly at all. There were just a lot of great, talented players available. There really wasn't any reaches in the top 10...someone was always going to slide.
I think thats fair. Personally like Simashev a lot more than But, but kind of besides the point. You're right someone was always going to slide. FOR ME, that shouldn't have been Benson.

Same for me, I had him very high. I could just see myself getting just as excited in the long term for a player like Danielson or Leonard.

He played 10:00 minutes per game for 13 games in the playoffs and got 3 goals. I'm not sure that's "significant," and I'm sure they would've won without him. But I agree with your overall point.

I know that teams who are trying to win don't care about the ages of the players -- it's just a hell of a lot harder to make the team. Benson doesn't look out of place but he has plenty that he can still learn in the WHL. I guess I'm a bit peeved we were able to fit him so easily at this point in the rebuild...which would probably be a separate topic.
We all thought one of Rousek, Kulich or Rosén was going to take Quinn’s spot in the lineup and he won it by easily being the best of the bunch. He would’ve been sent down if Quinn was healthy. Not sure why there’s a reason to be peeved about that.

He plays a mature game. When Quinn returns he’s clearly more valuable on the ice right now than Olofsson (who should’ve been moved in the off season anyways). So he will likely take his spot, these aren’t moves I have an issue with really.

Yeah, what Whiskey is saying is 100% accurate. If you're just trying to develop a team, yeah Benson just goes back. But the Sabres are trying to win, and so far, Benson looks like he is going to help them win games.
Well, the Sabres are 1-3. Benson has 2 points in 4 games. Maybe he will help them, maybe not.

18 year olds almost never help a team win at the NHL level. Not long term.

Boy vs men in that clip. Though Dahlin was over zealous jumping up into the play and got caught when Benson got bowled over. Going to happen to a smaller player. Something the D have to understand and not get too aggressive on when he's on the ice.

By the end of that sequence, Benson's line had been on the ice for almost 90 seconds. They had an excellent shift cycling the puck and when it transitioned, the Sabres fell prey to their own attempts to be a rush team - they moved the puck quickly to counter as the Flames changed instead of resetting and changing themselves. Benson made a mistake at the blueline, not the first nor last time a young player will do that, and it went the other way with no support since they were all gassed. *shrug* The 60 seconds prior to that the Flames couldn't get the puck out in part because of his work and that of his linemates.

Thompson, Skinner and Tuch have 1 point. Krebs has 0.

Benson is helping his team win more than other skaters in the Sabres.

Benson is going to have some rough games, but currently, he is 4th on the team in expected goals for %. He is one of only 4 players on the entire team that is currently above 50%. He is helping far more than most players on the Sabres right now. The only players above him are Jost (who has only played 2 games), Thompson, and Power.

I hope he sticks. I see him as the kind of player who will rise to the level of play. Seems like your whole team is struggling. So I hope mgt and coaches don't cut him because he's the rook. You guys are a rival, but I just love this kid. Want to see him succeed in spite of the team he plays on, lol.
