I found out today that he signed a one-way contract with Bridgeport and pending on how he does in their training camp and pre-season games will determine whether he will extend his contract and possibly sign a 2-way contract next year with the Isles

Thanks! Nice of you to post these updates.

Jokes not withstanding, this is a nice moment for Long Island hockey.

My son spoke with Vlady's dad last night at his hockey program and he said that Vlady has indeed signed a minor league deal with the Sound Tigers. It will be fun to watch him develop there, and to see if his speed and creativity can outweigh the size/strength difference from the OHL to the AHL. Either way, this is a very positive step for LI hockey.:handclap:

Thanks for the further verification.

I'm curious too as to how he'll hold up. He is MIGHTY small and the AHL can be a brutal place.

Not that I would expect him to make the jump anytime soon, but if it's a minor league deal is there any way he could be called up?

I honestly think he will atleast begin the seaon in UTAH.It will hopefully allow him to gain some confidence to preform at the next level.

Vlady signed a deal with Bridgeport, not the Islanders, so he is not Islanders property. I don't think they would sign him to an AHL deal only to send him to the ECHL (I think?). As far as confidence goes, that is absolutely not a problem with this kid. He played for the Colts and then the Sting (with Stamkos) in the OHL last season, putting up big numbers before breaking his jaw.

I fully expect him to play for the Bridge.

And all this can be accomplished in an afternoon

Yes but I believe every other team can do this too even if he is playing for Bridgeport. But I could be very wrong (and its not like there is too much danger (i dont think) of it happening).

IMO ,Sorry unless he really impresses in camp he will most likely start in UTAH.

That is 16 Forwards at camp unless Walter and Collition make the Isles roster.Maybe fritz makes the Isles as team goon. Then that will be 14 or 13.I suspect Walter and Colliton to start the season in Bport just because the Isles have a log jam of forwards.

now i could be completely wrong, but i'm thinking that since he's bridgeport's property and under contract with them, another nhl team that is not affilated with bridgeport can't just come in and sign him. however, it would be possible for another team to acquire him by making an ahl trade. i think lol.

Im pretty sure you are right about AHL teams. But what if an NHL teams wants to sign him to a contract, the Isles dont own him, so wouldnt they be free to do so?

EDIT

An NHL team is almost definatly not signing him, but does anyone know what the ruling on that is?

It is good for LI that Nikiforov gets a shot.He played well at prospect camp and in the OHL,so look for Nikiforov to continue to perform.I told you on this board before about him. There are other good players that will get a shot from the LI area as well Tim Kunes D drafted by Carolina plays for BC,Tim Fillangeri D SR at BC FA,James Marcou FWD SO at Umass FA,Mike Marcou D FR at Umass only 18 still Draft eligible it would be great to get some more local talent on the Isles or at Bridgeport to have in the system

I was at Iceworks for my hockey camp today and heard Vlady Nikiforov has been signed by Bridgeport.
Vlady Nikiforov called up by BPORT today ,has been named to the ECHL ALL STAR game .I told you about Nikiforov long time ago .Isles also looking to bring in his youth team mate James Marcou who is 3 in scoring in Hockey East he plays for UMASS.Good luck Vlady the isles have started to give some good local players a chance

Marcou is very skilled player who makes other player s around him better,he has played with Okopso on several USA teams.Put up 71pts in the USHL and made hockey east all rookie team last year with JVR and Colin Wilson .He was at Isles Prospect camp 2 years agoand google his name on the isles web site you see he had some headline s.The reason passed over in the draft is like Nikiforov his size held him out.Now about 5 9 165lbs and has scored at every level, has more points then all of our draft picks from the last 2 drafts, new NHL there are more smaller players on teams. He is currently third in hockey east in scoring with 21pts 8g 13a 18games he should be signed by some team this year so why not another local kid, Marcou is 20 yrs old.Another player is MATT Gilroy who plays for BU a solid D man who is a seniorand is 24 yers old lets see the isles get both of them plus Nikiforov and will be real I Islanders
