Maybe the Rangers would be interested in reacquiring Namestnikov as a depth option, would have to refer to Rangers fans.

Tons of teams should be interested in Namestnikov for 1 million. But it depends on the price, of course.

He's not a play driving player.

He's a pretty good third line player. He's good defensively and he's smart despite not being a consistent producer. Nice role player to have on your bottom 6 who can chip in. He can get feisty too. For some reason people seem to overlook him... Maybe because they were expecting more after his first seasons in Tampa but when you can appreciate him for what he is, he's a good player.

There's a lot of players who are getting paid more who do less. At 2M he's a nice addition.

I would think Detroit makes him available.

They can also retain 50%, bringing his cap hit to $1 million.

Would any team be interested?

NYR has no interest.

He has always sucked, early success in TB was an abberration.
Did not like it when Stevie Y poached a mo valuable legit talent in JT Miller for him as what appears to be a threat to pull out of the McDonaugh deal if this side transaction was not follow up.

If a team needs a cheap warm body, I could see it, but otherwise a useless waste.

I think he would be a good fit for Vancouver (we need solid bottom-6 forwards + a Russian for Pod would be nice) but we're not in the position to trade picks for rentals lol.

He definitely doesn’t suck this season
He played OK with the Avs too. Scored at a decent rate. Scored some playoff goals too. Avs got some solid value for the late 4th they traded away. Was a good rental for Sakic.

Classic bern logic. So you don't like the player because a smarter GM fleeced your favorite team's GM in a deal involving said player? And this justifies you making thinks up about the quality of that player.

Well he's been pretty sustainably hot this year and even before Detroit melted down due to Covid he was pushing his way up the lineup. I think at 50% retention he's worth at least a late 2nd from a contender because he could provide depth scoring and positional flexibility. He's been pretty good defensively too, which is really where his value lies.

Also late 2nds don't really have nearly the same value as early 2nds, given what we know about winshares at each draft position.

Namestnikov has very good season so far . He is 29 and Red Wings not going to compete for cup next 2 years. It is good time to trade 3rd line center For draft picks or prospect while he has some value

I think the issue is that while he may be a "3rd line C" (or W) for a bad team like DET, most contenders have better players on the 3rd line. He's not bad depth to have but the market will be flooded with "meh" depth players.

Just depends on what GMs like what players and what the price is.

Loved him since his time in Ottawa. Hes exactly what you want from a bottom 6 player - he plays hard, has some scoring upside, and gets paid less than hes worth.

In an alternate reality, had he not had such a bad string of seasons in New York (which destroyed his value), he could have been getting paid A LOT more by some team. And with term to boot.

Having said that, he likely would have been cashing in on a few peak seasons, and in actuality as others have already said - hes really not a play driver at all. Not good enough to be a legit threat in the top 6, and more suited for the bottom 6 (where he can still be effective).

So yeah, in this actually reality where hes been devalued to the point that hes at - this is a steal of a player for any cap strapped contending team.
