Friedman: Vladimir Tarasenko[DET] might be traded?

How bad has Tarasenko really been this year??

Has it just been a bad fit or does he just not have it anymore? Genuine question.

Maybe he could be a decent bargain option for the Kings who desperately need to add a top 6 scoring winger. 25% retained would put his cap hit at ~$3.5m - not terrible at all considering the upside if he fits well.

I dunno if he's a detriment or just doesn't fit. Hard to say doesn't fit when we've had a coaching change and nearly everybody is better under McLellan.

He's just not what he used to be. Might be worth it at 50%. Not worth his full contract at all. Who knows, maybe a change of scenery does the trick.

I don't know if retention would be necessary? Just send back Nosek or something to offset the prorated value of the 4.7M, that should net you the space you need - or come very close to it as FLA has accumulated like 3.7M in deadline space from proration (not sure if it adds up perfectly, but it's close)

I see this as purely speculative on Friedman's part. He sees Soderblom doing very well, and so makes a reasonable conclusion that Tarasenko may be expendable.

Sure, Tarasenko IS expendable. But that doesn't mean he'll be traded. For one, I do not think he is doing all that poorly. Secondly, what return are we talking about here. are teams breaking down SY's door asking for Tank? I doubt it.

I think he will settle in and will be a useful middle-6 contributor next year. I'd rather do that than get desperate and try to pay somebody and/or retain.

I'm not sure it's speculation, at least not his own, considering he's essentially said that he "Keeps hearing the name come up."

I guess the question is who keeps bringing it up.

I looked at Ekblad but I honestly dunno what his role is in Florida anymore. I'd eat his cap in a heartbeat, just dunno that Florida would wanna let him go while making another run?

Also, what's up with your 2026 first? CapWages says it's conditional from a trade August 18th, 2022, but I can't find it anywhere.
Ek's still a top pair guy on the team, he's just slow, gets caught pinching, and can't get back. If he's flat footed on a breakaway, no shot he gets back. Forsling tends to do a great job covering for him, but his leg injuries make me nervous in regards to an extension. He's still elite at cutting off guys entering the zone and positioning if he's ahead of the play, though.

Dunno, that was the year we got Tkachuk, the first we sent is conditional, so could be due to that.

Sounds like an expensive Jeff Petry lol.

I literally can't find the trade anywhere. The Tank at 50% + Wallinder for a first is interesting but I dunno that Detroit bites. Wallinder was an early 2nd and still doesn't look like a bad prospect, so trading him for a late 1st a year from now would effectively be kicking the can down the road.

I could maybe see them doing it to flip the 1st for something that can immediately help, but that would entirely depend on how they value Wallinder.

I'd take over Petry all day, kinda think he stays and gets re-signed, but I'm wary of that.

At the start of the year he seemed like he was more interested in going through the motions but that is understandable considering the rollercoaster he has been through. He has looked better but either way, he has not been a great fit.

Despite that he has put up close to a half point per game while primarily pencilled in on the 3rd line with limited opportunities on the PP. 22 Points isn't spectacular but contextually that production from the 3rd line with sporadic PP time is more solid than he gets credit for.

The Panthers pick lottery protected, if they finish outside the playoffs this year thery have the option of pushing the pick going to Calgary until 2026

I can see Ek and/or Bob moved, but not till the off-season. Someone mentioned Tank at 50% and Wallinder for a 1st, I think I’d be ok with that. We trade for and sign guys better than we’ve been developing.
Have no interest in floridas first. By that I mean moving willander to acquire a first. We aren’t trying to be a rebuilding team anymore, we need players who help today. The whole reason we are trying to get rid of tarasenko is for cap space.if we are trading willander it’s for a player who can help us now, not a pick.

Cool, I didn't bring it up, I assumed a Wings fan did. Plus, I already accepted Reggie, you're too late.

Seemed weird to me, but I don't see Zito moving anyone off the roster except maybe Nosek, but he doesn't serve you guys much purpose either.
A much more realistic option is we either retain 25% or 50% for a 3rd round pick. He hasn’t been a great fit and we likely want the cap space/roster spot for next year. If rantanen goes to FA the red wings are going to offer him a humongous contract. I assume we trade two vet forwards between now and FA. We want the space and we have young guys that need to be on the team.

If Stevie Y is willing, we could do that…but, we don’t have a pick till round 4 this year.
