Friedman: Vladimir Tarasenko[DET] might be traded?

Giving him two years was a little strange in the first place.

Including Tank, we've got 9 forwards signed next year. That doesn't include RFAs Berggren and Soderblom, both of whom are playing better than Tank under McLellan. It also doesn't include possible promotions between Danielson, MBN, and Mazur. Or if they attempt to get Buchelnikov out of his KHL contract.

I guess they probably figured we need a 2nd year to get him to sign, but we can limit the NTC in year two to move him if necessary.

wings are in the last wildcard spot and they are gonna trade him? i hope they'd do a player swap or bring someone else in. otherwise i dont get the move. they have a chance to end the 8 season playoff drought.
Moving Tarasenko is addition by subtraction. He’s been horrible and tanks every line he’s on.

Dude… he absolutely is. I usually agree with your posts but his board play and leadership is definitely missed.

I found his best asset to be his powerplay puck movement, thats the only place I thought they would miss him but the PP has been exceptional. I dont miss his foot speed and penalties, his board play was great although. Leadership is hard to gauge since none of us are in the room. If Perron was an expiring contract would gladly swap him for Tarasenko.

At this point, it's not missed enough to supply him a roster spot at a $4M price tag.

Berggren and Soderblom's resurgence is gonna cause a bit of a logjam on the roster next year, with Mazur/Danielson/MBN knocking on the door.

I’m big on MBN and I don’t put much stock in prospects. Danielson imo has no bearing considering what his role will be.

I will agree Perron is slow. But he’s still valuable and I think he’s still a better/fit player than Tarasenko.

Everyone else will probably be depth role players. Perron won’t stop these players from being called up. Mazur won’t make or break the organization let’s be real. I dislike when Wings fans put so much emphasis on players who haven’t even played an NHL game.

I will admit his contract is too lengthy. Soderblom and Berggren I think have priority and their spots locked up.

Is Detroit lacking leadership?
From reports circa the Lalonde days it is a very quiet lockeroom. Our leaders are more demonstrate the right way to play guys. Perron was 100% a big time vocal guy for us last year. Our big run last Jan was sort of tied back to him standing up and saying we are getting 18 pts in Jan after a disaster of a Dec.

I actually wouldn't mind him as a 13th guy that could pop in for injuries if he was ok with that and we could swap him for Tank. He could work with Ras and Soder on their netfront and board games.

I think the locker room was quiet because they did not enjoy playing for their coach. It wasn't toxic enough for someone to lash out at a coach, but those guys didn't want to play. Even some of the "leaders" , they wanted Lalonde out. I think if Perron were in Detroit this season instead of Tarasenko , that outcome would not have changed.

I don’t see him wanting to come back to STL, but if he did, I’d do the proposed trade for Joseph for him.

It’s probably me being nostalgic(he was my favorite player for years), but he DID have excellent chemistry with Thomas and Buchnevich.

Tarasenko sounds like a perfect fit for what Barry Trotz is building in Nashville... :help:
Would be cool if we could get rid of Tank and grab Luke Schenn.

I've heard he likes Florida. He's had the Panther experience already, and I can't see us trading him to Tampa.
He has a house in South Florida, near Miami I believe (which is 30-60 minutes south of the arena depending on where it is), but I don’t see how we fit him. Would love to have him back, he’s an instant fit, but we need a defenseman as well.

How you fit him cap wise or roster spot wise?

Cap-wise. At 50% we could, but I believe Zito covers a defenseman more than a forward. That said, Tank knows the system and how to play it, especially in the playoffs.

Detroit can eat 50% for some kind of asset. You got any cap you need to dump that'd be expiring in the offseason?

I can see Ek and/or Bob moved, but not till the off-season. Someone mentioned Tank at 50% and Wallinder for a 1st, I think I’d be ok with that. We trade for and sign guys better than we’ve been developing.

I looked at Ekblad but I honestly dunno what his role is in Florida anymore. I'd eat his cap in a heartbeat, just dunno that Florida would wanna let him go while making another run?

Also, what's up with your 2026 first? CapWages says it's conditional from a trade August 18th, 2022, but I can't find it anywhere.

How bad has Tarasenko really been this year??

Has it just been a bad fit or does he just not have it anymore? Genuine question.

Maybe he could be a decent bargain option for the Kings who desperately need to add a top 6 scoring winger. 25% retained would put his cap hit at ~$3.5m - not terrible at all considering the upside if he fits well.
