I am surprised that people are thinking a 1st in a Tarasenko trade... he hasn't been great at 5v5, granted the Blues haven't been great but still a 1st seems like overpayment.

30+ Goal scorer and nearly a ppg player easily fetches a 1st+

It is an overpayment but....there is always one or two. His play isn't worthy and at this point its only a novelty. He isnt turning a team into a contender.

I can't tell if people are intentionally being silly or not. Tarasenko was top 30 in points last year and top 20 in even strength points. That's pretty easily worth a 1st+ at the deadline.

Can someone reasonably explain why there is doubt Tarasenko is worth a 1st now through the deadline?

I don’t see many other teams aside from maybe Chicago trading guys who are consistently 30-40 goal scorers and generally pace near the ppg mark.

He’s a premier goal scorer and he does it through his shot and did it as recently as last season. This isn’t a guy who’s coming off down years. He had the best season of his career last year. The only other options that I could see as a genuinely better top 6 forward options that may be available would be Kane and ROR. Horvat could also be thrown into that group. I wanted to omit ROR and Horvat from that group entirely as centers especially two way centers who can play shut down and score are held much higher in terms of value to a team even if they don’t score at the same clip.

Edit: forgot about Timo Meier, I would generally guess as a rental (unless for some reason someone would want to qualify Meier at that massive QO) Meier and Tarasenko are fairly interchangeable in terms of production. Only argument I could see is that he would be a bit more desirable to sign long term, but I still don’t think he’s a guy that gets qualified, would still be a gamble
