Some how the Jays are;
-8th wRC+
-5th in Positional Player fWAR
-6th in Bullpen fWAR (tied with the Dodgers)
-1st in DEF rating
-4th in DRS

But 25th in starting fWAR (tied with the Dodgers).

Get some better starting pitching from your 4th and 5th spots and the hitting improves from Santander and Gimenez, you aren’t looking so bad.

Manoah and Scherzer returning could be big pieces for us. Might need an arm at the deadline. Francis has looked passable recently.

In hindsight, letting Yarborough go was a mistake. 35 innings with a 2.83 ERA. Now in the Yankees rotation with 4 straight starts of 5, 5, 6 and 6 innings giving up 2 or less runs. Has 22 Ks and 2 BBs in his last 4 starts.

Everyone but the family dog knew letting Yarborough go was a mistake. Ross at it again.

Royals tired of their little league tier offense have decided to call up their top prospect Jac Caglianone from AAA Omaha.

Caglianone, drafted a little under a year ago has rocketed through the Royals system. He was hitting .322/.389/.593 with 15 home runs and 56 RBIs in 50 games between AA and AAA.

Will have to see he's truly ready. God knows the Royals need help offensively. With Bobby Witt's power taking a bit of a dip their already tepid offense is arguably worse than it was last year.

Did we ever find out post game if Springer was jumping on 3rd when he got tagged out because of his ankle or because he was excited. As it was happening I saw it and thought what is he doing, they're going to review it. Seemed rather inexcusable. Luckily they scored a bunch in the 8th and it didn't matter. Hope he's not hurt

Monday morning defensive update:

Kirk is 3rd overall in Def (1st in AL) and 3rd overall in DRS (1 behind Narvaez) with Heineman 12th and T-9 overall

Vlad is T-11th among qualified 1B in Def and T-5 for DRS.

Clement is up to 5th in 2B Def (Gimenez is still 13th) and they are 1-2 in the AL in DRS (Hoerner has more for CHC)

Bo is still near the bottom end defensively (though he has lots of company)

Clement is 4th in 3B Def and his 2 DRS is T-13. Barger is 12th and has the same 2 DRS.

In LF, Roden is down to 3rd. Straw is 14th in Def (in 51 innings). Clase's Def is only 0.1, but he is tied for 9th in DRS.

In CF, Straw and Varsho are tied for 12th in Def. Straw is also tied for 8th in DRS.

In RF, Straw is statistically the only non-negative defender the Jays have used (for 3 innings).

Friendly reminder that the new dimensions for the Dome negatively impact the Def ratings for non-CF by a fair margin compared to other parks. For a guy like Roden (and Straw in LF), it comes down to essentially being a CF playing LF in terms of range. In LF, every guy has at least 1 DRS (except Springer in 16 innings) and Lukes has the only negative Def. In RF, Barger has 1 DRS (thanks to that one game) and the highest Def, but everyone else is 0 or slightly negative.

Hope the Royals become elite quickly. Bobby Witt is probably my favourite non Jay guy.

Yeah they said he recently got his ankle taped and was testing it out.

Really interesting profile. You don't see many hitters swing at everything, including outside the zone, while absolutely crushing the ball and not whiffing much. He'll probably learn to be a bit more patient in the majors. Seems like Matt Olson is a good comp

Royals desperately need a spark for their offense.

Monday off days suck because there isn't even minor league ball to follow along with, but at least there's still Complex League games (and the DSL started up today, too).

Johnny King made his 4th pro start and now has 11.2 IP, 7 hits, 0 ER, 3 BB, 19 Ks. What a great start for him... this season has been the opposite of 2024 in terms of pitching prospect performance.

It will be interesting to see when he gets called up to Dunedin.

Bonilla is looking better as well.

A rare slow day in the sports schedule too. No Jays, cup final doesn't start until Wednesday and the NBA finals the day after that. CFL season is a few days away too.

Only other big marquee game is Mets/Dodgers but I don't like watching late games unless it's the Jays or playoffs.

You're telling me you don't plan on watching the Rockies go for win #10 in Miami?

Dodgers may tee off as the Mets are putting Paul Blackburn on the mound lol

But yeah, not many interesting matchups tonight. Although, it's always fun watching Joe Ryan own people with that deceptive fastball (just not against the Jays later this week, please)

I posted an option in the GDT for anyone who needs alternative plans: the complete radio broadcast of the 1934 all-star game

Updated Jays' top 10 prospects.

King really jumped the rankings. Martinez fell out of the top 10. No surprise with both. Orelvis still struggles with defense and isn't hitting. Stanifer should likely be in the top 10. However, since he wasn't on anyone's radar it will take some time I think.

If Yesavage is below Tiedemann, I would think the Jays have at least 3 prospects in the top 100.
