Blue Jays Discussion: Vladdy has signed 14 yr/500mil

Trey Yesavage
I'm going to have to find my way to Vancouver for a game. This is now the most interesting group of prospects in Vancouver ... ever?
I just came in here to say and ask about this. I emailed someone at the Van Canadians to see if he knows when he will pitch. Maybe this weekend? Btw Rob Fai? Did he work for Sportsnet at one time? Or a different guy?

Late defensive update (because of the holiday):

Catcher - Kirk is 3rd overall (11th in DRS) and Heineman is 10th (t-5 in DRS) in Def

1B - Vlad is tied for 10th among qualified 1B (T-6th in AL) and tied for 7th in DRS (Pasquantino currently leads both in the AL while Olson leads both overall)

2B - Gimenez is 13th in Def and tied for 1st in DRS overall

SS - Bo is still struggling mightily defensively.

3B - Clement is still 4th in Def and has 2 DRS. Interestingly enough, Barger is up to T-18th overall and has the same 2 DRS (tied for 12th).

LF - Roden still leads LF in Def (1 DRS), with Santander and Straw having decent numbers in limited playing time in left. Everyone else hasn't been great.

CF - Straw and Varsho are now 8th and 9th respectively in CF Def. Varsho is tied for 3rd overall in CF DRS (Rafaela leads the AL in both but Varsho is gaining fast)

RF - The Jays RF defense isn't great (not a shock with Springer and Santander out there a lot).

Tbh I guess I didn’t see enough of Anthony last year. I didn’t realize his defence was so poor. I think it’s worse than Teoscar without the laziness sometimes. He takes some awkward paths to the ball.

Yeah, I've actually supported Bo defensively in prior years and thought that he was better than his reputation ... but this season my eye test is that his range has declined considerably and there have been 3-4 balls in the last week or two that I've raised an eyebrow at when he didn't get to them.

Ironically, his arm/throwing seem much improved while his legs look to be going.

If he stays, you'd think he has to be at 2B next year.

Not to be too overshadowed by King and Messina but the Jays took a 3rd high school arm overslot in the 11th round in Troy Guthrie. He only got 200k so perhaps not the same upside but in 3 FCL outings he's thrown 8 IP and only allowed 1 run and 3 baserunners with 2 hits and 1 walk. Just 5 K's.

Long ways off but perhaps might follow a Michael Dominguez kind of path as a barely overslot late round high schooler who's doing well in AA and could reasonably be a pen option in the near future.

Through 2 innings he's given up 2 runs on 2 hits and 3 walks. But he struck out 5.

Arjun Nimmala just hit his 8th HR of the year though to give the C's a 3-2 lead. That HR also sees him re-take the NWL lead for homers.
4 innings finished 10ks. Control was off at the start, but from the game tracker when I checked, he wasn't getting calls.

The fact that he had 10 Ks in 4 innings is a huge plus.

16 whiffs through 3 innings and 19 through 4!

Nice. I wanted to listen to the radio broadcast, but I have like 3 days of IIHF World Championship games that I'm trying to power through to clear my backlog of stuff

Stanifer came in and struggled a bit with control. Again, this ump has a tight strike zone. 12 walks in total for both teams through 5 innings.

Juaron Watts-Brown and Grant Rogers got promoted to AA. Watts-brown has excellent stuff. Control has improved a ton. It will be interesting to see how he does in AA. If he struggles as a starter, he should make a very good reliever.

I have said this before, but more positive performances from the Jays' prospects instead of negative ones like the start of last year. A lot of potential from pitchers at the lower levels. Yesavage is already there, but King, Maroudis, and Stephen all have top 100 potential next year. Throw in a good draft and no prospects traded at the deadline, and the system has the potential to be ranked close to 15th in the league, which is a huge boost.

Nimmala a double away from the cycle and has a walk and a sac fly to go along with that. Obviously he doesn't want Yesavage to have all the spotlight tonight
