Blue Jays Discussion: Vladdy has signed 14 yr/500mil

Defensive update:

Kirk is up to 6th in catcher Def (still a -1 DRS) and Heineman is 12th

Vlad is 16th of 1B with at least 50 innings (tied for 7th in DRS)

Gimenez is still struggling on the Def board (in the 30s) but tied for 1st for DRS

Bo has dropped down on the SS defensive board

Clement is 4th in Def for 3B (1st in AL) and tied for the DRS lead

Roden is 3rd in LF Def (behind Laureano and Bader) and tied for 5th in DRS

Straw is up to 8th in CF Def (tied for 3rd in DRS).

Barger leads RF Def (for obvious small sample reasons). Springer and Santander are two of the worst defensive RF.

I agree, but they need more. Why was there a need for a guy like Gimenez and spend 100m via trade on him? I get that he is still leading Toronto in home runs hit, but that's not a good thing
I do think they like contact a little too much, but with Gimenez, I think he was brought in just in case Bo leaves. After they acquired him, they were still in on Alonso, but he wasn't going from the Mets.

That depends in my opinion.

If his contract limits what we build then that's a horrible trade.

If we traded a guy who had no spot on this team (with Santander being pursued) plus a limited power corner outfielder for a clear upgrade at 2B and Sandlin (who we have for 3 years). If the money isn't relevant, then that's a great deal regardless of how much Gimenez makes.

Yea, that's true. Let's hope if they are in it at the deadline, they can get someone else with power. Maybe a 3rd baseman?

Ya or even an LF.

They overcorrected after the M's series. They never replaced Teo's power, and a guy like Kirk declined. Towards the end of last year, the bats improved while the team's bat speed picked up. I haven't seen any advanced stats so far with the team to indicate a shift to more contact or power.

Once he gets going, Orelvis could be that guy.

Of the guys on the roster, Clement's 12 HR last year is the most of either he or Wagner. Barger is a much better power hitter option, but he's not great defensively.

If Arizona falls out of the race in the NL West, Suarez is a great target. There is really no other 3B option.

JD Martinez is available :) although I have no idea where he would play.
He’d be a great fit if he’s willing to take a limited role. We need a right handed hitter who DH’s against lefties and comes off the bench late in games as the primary pinch hitter.

What is their obsession with Lukes? He's been bad. Play Straw in CF until he cools off. Or Barger in a corner with Springer in CF. Barger hasn't hit in any MLB sample but I can tolerate bad more if it's getting a prospect experience rather than a journeyman on the wrong side of 30. Instead they just called him up to sit on the bench I guess. Schneider could have just kept doing that.

I don't mind keeping Lukes up if they won't start him and only use him when necessary late in the game. Clase would be a better option now.

^This guy hasn't got a clue

I feel like Lukes is just keeping Varsho's spot warm. He should be toast when they need to drop an OF unless Roden craters and they want to give him reps in Buffalo
