Hi guys!

I will be going to Ottawa soon, from Sweden, to study for one semester. I'm a big Senators fan and I can't wait for the season to get started. However, I've still haven't found any accommodation yet. Is there anyone who can help me which areas are the best to live in and which I should avoid? Worst case scenario I guess I have to call EK65 and ask him if he has a place available for a fellow Swede

Where are you going to school: Carleton or Ottawa U?

Anywhere in the Glebe area is good then. Lot's of apartment bachelor and 1 bedrooms off of both Bank street and Elgin Street. I used to live on Frank Street (about 4-5 big apartment buildings all in a line just off of Elgin street) and across the street in Jack Purcell park they put a big outdoor ice hockey rink in the winter for anyone to go play in anytime. Had many an amazing time there.

Try going onto Kijiji.ca Ottawa and searching for 1 bedroom apartments or bachelor rooms.

I was in Malmo this past winter at the World Juniors; you have an amazing country. Whereabouts in Sweden are you from?

For one semester, I would consider staying in a residence on campus. Bus service is very good to the U. There may be some rental units just across the street in the housing neighbourhood, and it is within short walking distance so you can save on OC Transpo bus costs.

Thanks for you're response man :)

I've heard that Glebe should be one of the best places to stay but it's really hard to find a room at that location at the moment or actually at any places close to Carleton U. I have have looked at Kijiji but I haven't had any luck yet.

Oh, that's awesome! How come you visited Sweden? Malmo arena is one of the best arenas in Sweden. I live about 300 kilometers from Malmo, a city called Linkoping, the 5:th biggest city in Sweden. Marcus Hogberg the goalie, drafted by the Sens, plays for the team that I'm cheering for in Sweden, Linkoping Hockey Club :)

I applied for residence at Carleton U but unfortunately I didn't get one. :(

I know a lot of senior students rent out rooms in larger houses to students on short-term periods... 4 guys end up renting a 5 bedroom house thinking they'll find a 5th guy to split rent with, and never find one.

Keep looking around on kijiji.ca (like Furious Senator mentioned), and right now is when places should start coming up for rent. End of August/ beginning of September is right around when the short-term stuff starts popping up, as "student housing" places start realizing they're one rent's cheque short.

What is your budget?

Specifically to go see the World Juniors but I stayed in Copenhagen during the tournament (no offence to Malmo) and took the train over for games. Actually I stayed in a hostel quite close to Københavns Lufthavn so it honestly took less time to shoot over the bridge into Malmo than it did to take the bus into downtown Copenhagen.

I ended up going to both arenas and both were great. The fans were unbelievable. I was totally blown away by the fan organized chants, songs, and general enthusiasm.

Honestly it put the 2009 tournament in Ottawa to shame. Games were like a crypt there  We need to give Scandinavia more tournaments!

Okej thanks for the tips :) Will keep un eye on Kijii, for sure.
My budget goes up to 700 dollars a month.

Yeah I understand what you mean. The fan-culture i Sweden and Europe is quite different from the one in US / Canada. However, in Sweden we were really impressed with all the audience you managed to get to the arena, especially when two lower ranked teams played each other.

I went to see Kazakhstan vs Germany at the Ottawa 2009 WJC and while there weren't a ton of people the crowd was into it.

Poor Kasakhstan :( They got obliterated something like 9-1 but the crowd was super stoked when they scored their one goal.

Where's the thread for tickets? My friends and I want to visit Ott in October vs MTL and i'm looking if any of you guys have that page for student discounts. Especially that this is a pre season game... looking to pay around $40 ea.

Most of those tickets are gone. I assume you're meaning the October 3rd one ?

I believe they only give a discount to people attending Carleton.

Does anyone know of a place in, or around Ottawa preferably west towards Renfrew that sells Siberian Husky puppies ?

Yeah that one... Many tickets are still avail. but i am looking for cheaper than the PIZZA PIZZA POWER PACK tickets which are $34 each with shipping.

I know it is aways away, but I could potentially be moving to Ottawa in April/May. Is anybody going to be looking for a roommate in an apartment?

I don't think you'll fine any cheaper than that...

Check Kijiji.

Do you drive ? Living in Nepean/Kanata/potentially Stittsville might be a better idea. Unless money is no problem, in which case whichever works.

CANADIAN TIRE CENTER UPDATES ARENA SMOKING & BAG POLICY
(^^ link to the article ^^)

The new policy will be in place for this evening’s Ottawa Senators (@Senators) pre-season game against Toronto and will remain in effect for all hockey games going forward.

As of this evening, guests will be able leave and re-enter the venue at Gate 1 until the drop of the puck at the start the third period. Following that time, any patrons who leave the arena will not be permitted to return to their seats. Those already outside smoking at Gate 1 as of the drop of the puck will be allowed back inside the building.

The venue will also take this opportunity to reinforce its policy on e-cigarettes. Electronic cigarettes, personal vaporizers and electronic nicotine delivery systems are not permitted inside Canadian Tire Centre in any area of the building at any time.

The Senators will also put in place a new bag policy for the upcoming season. Effective Sept. 24, any bags sized 12 inches x 6 inches x 12 inches or smaller will be permitted into the arena – anything larger will not be allowed. Patterned after the successful implementation of a similar policy in the National Football League, this allows for all bags in the arena to be placed safely underneath arena seating.

Honeymooning fans looking to buy game tickets

Apologies for creating a thread on this, but couldn't find a designated ticket thread.

My wife and I are going to be spending our honeymoon in Canada, following the Sharks on their Canadian road trip in March 2015. Why Canada and not some typical tropical destination? Simple. We love hockey just as much as we love each other. We also love Canada.

Wanted to reach out for:

1) Face value game tickets for Sharks vs Sens on March 23, 2015

2) Places we just have to see, eat at, experience in the 2 days that we'll be there. We're also going to games in Toronto and Montreal.

Thanks in advance!

That's amazing. Congrats to you guys but I agree with Mika. Not welcomed! :sarcasm:

Would be great to have you here!

stubhub for tickets

as for visiting Ottawa in March, its sorta a weird time of year weather wise.

I'd suggest staying at Chateau Montebello (in between Ottawa and Montreal) if you are driving, there's an animal park close by if you want to experience Canadian Wilderness (Parc Omega), or if you like Skiing, head up to Mont Tremblant (about 3 hours from Ottawa, 2 from Montreal).

In Ottawa, if $ isn't too much of an issue, stay at the Chateau Laurier or Lord Elgin if you want a classy looking place downtown. The Rideau Canal skateway was open til mid March last year, but that was pushing it, so don't bank on being able to do that. With that said there is an artificial skating rink by City Hall that should be open. Ottawa's got load's of museums, and a tour of Parliament is worth it just for the view from the Peace Tower. The Byward Market is the main hub of activity bars, restaurants, tourist shops. Elgin Street, although not as big, is up there too.

I have to agree that CTC is a very hostile place for visiting fans, I would be really careful. Unless you are wearing full sens gear I'd expect to get hit with a pool ball in a sock when you aren't looking. But since you are honeymooners they probably won't hit you too hard so just try to have a good time anyway

i remember the good old days when we used to drag opposing fans onto the ice during the intermission and speared them while dressed as spartans. times really have changed since the early/mid 2000's.
