Visiting LA? Where to go? What to do? Ask here

Maybe not the right thread for this, but does anyone have a guess what face value would be for a game in the finals? I'm trying to figure out if it's realistic to plan a trip from Seattle to LA..assuming things go as planned ;)

Trying to jinx our team in our thread! You sneaky, sneaky rat ;)

I'm in Pomona now. Great city. Holt has a beautiful scenery.

I grew up, knowing of it as the red light district.

If you have the chance to attend, the Los Angeles County Fair is unarguably the longest County Fair in SoCal and also unarguably the best time to buy deals. I even bought "as seen on TV" items for cheap.

If I remember correctly, face value at Ticketmaster was $400 (nose bleeds) for Finals tickets in 2014. You might be able to find some cheaper on Stub Hub from a STH.

Appreciate that. That certainly helps.

If someone is looking to unload a pair for Game 1/2 I'd be interested in having a conversation with you on that.

Any suggestions for good bars around the Staples Center for before/after the game?

El Cholo. if the big bad wolf would have drank an El Cholo margarita he would have been able to blow down the three little pigs brick house

If you like Whiskey, check out Seven Grand. They have a s-load of whiskey there and the bar is pretty cool. They have a patio you can smoke cigars on too. I'd also recommend getting a Pomegranate Margarita at Rosa Mexicano at LA Live. They are these pink frozen drinks that will make you question your manhood (if you are a man) but one of them will get you going pretty quickly.

Kings fan from Calgary looking to maybe come to LA if the Kings have a chance to win the Cup there once again. I've only been there once about 10 years ago so I really am not familiar with the city.

I really doubt I'll be able to get tickets to get into the actual game, so does LA Live or somewhere near there show the games outside Staples on a big screen the way Toronto did for the Leafs and Raptors games? If not, where would be the best place to go where I could watch the game with a bunch of fellow Kings fans to make the trip worthwhile?

Also, what area of the city should I be looking to get a hotel room in? Something close to Staples or is it better to stay further away and cab it back and forth? Keep in mind I want to be close to the afterparty if we win, so if anyone remembers where Kings fans ended up after the win in 2012 that would be awesome info to have.

Thanks for your replies in advance.

In 2012, I watched Game 3 and 4 at LA Live and the area went crazy after game 3. Game 4 they lost so it wasn't crazy. Then for Game 6, they completely blocked off the LA live area so I didn't go down there. Who knows what they'll do this year but if you're able to get into the LA live area, there will be a ton of Kings fans watching at all of the bars there. They do not show the games on a big screen outside. You'll have to watch at a bar.

As far as where to stay, there are a few options. One you might consider is staying near Redondo/Hermosa/Manhattan beaches because if you end up watching the game in that area, there are a ton of places with lots of Kings fans. Then on top of that, it is a sweet area to hang out both the beach and the bar scene. If you're able to find a good deal on a hotel around LAX, you'll be close to the green line which you could use to get to DTLA (take green line to blue line) and about a $10 cab (or uber) ride to Manhattan or Hermosa piers. DTLA hotels will probably be pretty pricey but obviously really close to the action. It really depends what you're looking for but there are other communities near DTLA to stay at (West Hollywood, Santa Monica, Pasadena etc).

Also, I'd recommend using Uber to get around if you plan on drinking. Download the app and you'll save close to 50% off what a cab would cost and more convenient than transit. You don't have to worry about carrying cash or tipping. You load your card onto the app and it automatically charges your card and there is no expectation to tip. If you're traveling with a friend, get them to use your referral code when they sign up and get $25 for free when they do their first ride. You might download Lyft and Sidecar too. You can get promotional credit for signing up for each one and get free rides to save you some cash.

Wow thanks man! That's way more info than I expected, ha ha. LA Live sounds like the place to be if I can get in I guess. But seeing as how I'm coming there solely for the purpose of watching the game, I'm sure I can just go there in the afternoon and hang out there all day till game time to be sure. Thanks again and I really hope I get to put all your info to use!

My faves-
The Chili Colorado
Chimichangas
Cheese enchiladas They have amazing cheese(aged cheddar *****es)

All 3 sound delicious. Especially the Chili Colorado. Thanks :handclap:

I really, really like whiskey. Holy ****, I just googled it. 29 pages of whiskey and scotch!? There is a 0% chance I'm not going here; especially since they have one of my favourite's that I haven't been able to have in over a year

Nice... ironically, the Italian restaurant across the street (Bottega Louie) has one of my favorite Old Fashioned. That's a good restaurant too.

There are also a few speakeasy style bars on Spring Street worth checking out (Varnish and Association). The Edison is a cool spot too.

If you are okay with being in the heart of it all, I would look for a room downtown. I stay in LA often for work, and I consistently book 3.5-4 star rooms for under 100 per night. Check out hotwire to get an idea what discounted rates are available then use priceline name your own price for the best deal. I work in the hospitality industry and know many of the hotel managers in the area and this is still the best way to get a good price. Rooms that usually sell for 200+ will be available at half the rate.

Nice part about downtown is you will be steps away from fantastic bars and restaurants, right next to the good spots for sight seeing, and just a 10 min subway ride away from staples.

What everyone else said

Just realize- You will need a car. No matter what. Unless you just want to stay downtown and not leave

Don't go to Compton, Cudahy, or Pacoima.

If you listened to me and got a car, go to Huntington Beach one day around noon and just enjoy the sights of not only the ocean, but some of the hottest women on the planet wearing close to nothing

Listen to Buddy with that recommendation for old fashioned, so many good evenings in LA have started out that way for me. And just reading the words El Cholo makes me want to go for a drive for dinner tonight. You will not be disappointed with either.

I don't know if you have ever used Uber but it is a game changer for me. $22 to get from Long Beach to the Huntington Pier. That's easily $40 in a cab. If I were traveling and planning on drinking, I wouldn't even rent a car. Especially if you are staying in DTLA. If you stay in DTLA, you have transit to get you close to most places one would want to visit in the OC/LA areas. From there, you can take Uber/Lyft/Sidecar for cheaper than a rental car. I personally use Uber the most because there are more cars on the road for them.

I had friends out here from upstate New York a month ago and they used Uber the whole time they were here instead of renting a car. They spent less than $100 on rides over 7 days. A rental car is going to cost you at least $30 a day plus gas. I use Uber up in San Francisco over the Muni/Bart.

Uber is a game changer, you even don't have to worry about carrying cash or possible DUI from enjoying the game/game company.

I dont know if this is a ticket thread but I will give it a shot. If anyone is selling Cup Finals games on this board or anybody you guys know please let me know. I am interested in going to a game out in LA.
