Thank you, do you know how much parking is if you do not have a player's card at Greektown?

It was 40, but that was the only time I have ever seen them make you pay for parking. It was the Saturday night game against the Lions and Falcons. I wouldn't worry about having to pay.

It's free even without a players card 99.999% of the time.

A CBJ fan in peace. I'll admit I haven't read the entire thread. With that said I will be coming to a show at the Fox Theater and was hoping for a close place to stay. Any suggestions are most appreciated.
Thanks

I have never stayed there personally, but the Hilton Garden Inn looks like it could be a good bet:

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Re...en_Inn_Detroit_Downtown-Detroit_Michigan.html

Hiltons are at least decent almost everywhere, and it won't cost you a fortune.

You could also try Greektown (less expensive) or MGM (more expensive) Casinos, or the Doubletree. I have visited the casinos but have not stayed there.

Hopefully someone who has been downtown more recently than I have can chime in, but if not, this should get you started in the right direction anyway.

Enjoy your stay and spend lots of money! Detroit needs it! :D

You can't go wrong. I think some of the visiting teams stay at the Athenium.

To park at Greektown Casino when many events are going on downtown is $20. With the players card, they check those to make sure you have gambled $40+ within the past month in order to park for free.

It's been cheaper to park at the Joe than at Greektown lately. $15 at the Joe.

Or the roof of Cobo for $10. Easier to get out too after a game.

Maybe someone here can help me. I got relatives living near Detroit and would like to visit them this autumn. Obviously catching some Wings games would be the cherry on the cake. Does anyone know when the 2013-2014 season will start because the nhl website leaves me in the dark? :help:

Some other questions: when does the NFL season start and MLB season end?

The regular season usually starts around Oct 3-9. The Wings usually have at least a couple home games at the beginning, so I'd avoid the first week of October if possible, but you should be okay from the second week onward.

MLB ends end of September, and NFL begins in early September.

The official schedule won't be out until end of June though, maybe July.

Hey Guys,
I'm heading down to Ann Arbor for the Winter Classic on December 31st with a bunch of friends. We're staying right in Ann Arbor and were wondering what the best New Year's Eve Party would be in the area. It's pretty early but I thought I would ask in case we eventually need to get tickets for something.

We're all in our mid-20s and are looking for a a place with good beer and maybe a small dance floor for the ladies in the group (preferably not a full on club). Any suggestions would be appreciated!

*By the way, I'm pumped to have you guys back in the same division as the Leafs. Can't wait for the rivalry to be rekindled!

It's not going to be as lively since the university kids will be away for the Winter Break. Normally, you'd be able to find lots of bars, parties, etc., close to campus.

If you want nicer restaurants, head for Main Street right in downtown, the 3-4 blocks (inclusive) south of Huron St. Downtown State St is several blocks east, and that's where you have more of the student culture-- bars, restaurants, coffee shops, quick eats. It's not all on State St, but in/around the 2-3 blocks in all directions. Also, South University will have additional student-driven options.

The area by Briarwood Mall (where many of the hotels are located, just off I-94) has mostly chain restaurants and a couple sports bars. With a game this big, the egress and exits to the stadium will be tightly controlled from I-94 for the State St and Main St exits. Main is only In-bound before the game and Out-bound after. Many people park at the mall and shuttle in. If you're in the downtown area, you can avoid that mess, so just a head's up to plan accordingly.

Yes, it's great to be with the Leafs again. Wings fans have been looking forward to it, thrilled to be in the East as well. I think this will be the best Winter Classic ever.

Need some help or idea's

Last year in 2012 i went to D in March.
For my tickets i bought them online, and have them shipped to my hotel.
Problem is i needed to pay twice for shipping costs.

Now i wanna go back this december, for 5 games. (All home)
But then i have to pay 5 times for shipping costs which is ridiculous at that site, I contacted them but they won't allow one shipping price,

Any of you got an idea?

Sabres fan...and yes, I do come in peace...

Granted, the Sabres are my home team-but I'll go most anywhere there's hockey within driving distance. And, since the Joe will soon be closing, I figured now is as good a time as any to visit. (It's actually a 3-day or so visit; I'm also taking in the OHL's Saginaw Spirit and Windsor Spitfires during this trip.)

I noticed that others have mentioned about the Greektown parking; I already have my players' card from them, so that part is set(and thanks for the advice re how much to bet so I can park for free!). As far as eats...I've done Hockeytown Cafe(great atmosphere, food's decent). I'm looking to try Cheli's(not for the chili-hot food doesn't agree with me)and possibly something else. Any recommendations? (FTR, I have a lot of hockey jerseys and will likely be wearing one...but the Leafs-thankfully-aren't one of them.)

I was always fond of the Detroiter bar. Last time I was there (it's been a while...) they had a special where you get a gigantic burger and a smallish draft for like 5 bucks. Someone who's more local can maybe clue you in as to whether it's still in good order.

OHL's Plymouth Whalers are right in metro Detroit as well, about 30-ish min from downtown.

I visited there the last time I was in Detroit a couple of years ago.

(The following is JMO. Don't rake me over the coals. :) )

I'm sorry, but fans of the Whalers deserve MUCH better than this big box of an arena. (Then again, after hearing of the team bouncing from one facility to another, the owners may have decided to just build what they can-nothing more or less.) And I've been to nearly half of the OHL's arenas. Compuware Arena just seems so...incomplete. About one of the few saving graces of the place: a damned good pro shop-souvenir store.

Hey guys,

I'm going to be in town in a few weeks for the rangers game. I have always had the joe at the top of my hockey bucket list, so this trip had to be made. I have a few questions.

First, will I get any crap for wearing a rangers jersey? At the garden, we rarely heckle opposing fans, but philly, Montreal and Pittsburgh have other things to say about that. You seem to be a classy bunch, so I'm not worried.

Second, where can I go to pregame? Are there any cool bars to check out nearby?

Also, I'll pretty much be there for one night so if you could recommend one awesome place to eat it will be great. I'm so happy the wings are in the east, I'll be back when the new place opens.

Thanks guys

1. No you won't get hassled for wearing a Rangers jersey.

2. Hockeytown Cafe is always a nice place to checkout. There really aren't too many cool bars to check out.

Old Shilelagh is supposed to be a lot of fun. I don't like it, but they do offer free shuttles to Joe Louis Arena before the game and will pick you up after. It's "free", but tipping the driver is not expected but expected. They routinely charge cover to get into the bar. It's why I don't like it. There is nothing inside that warrants paying cover. It's a bar just like every other bar. I have used the shuttle several times and it's always worked out for me. Fishbones also offers a free shuttle to the game, which is a block away. Food isn't bad either. (For Fishbones)

3. Slows BBQ is a great place for dinner. Be prepared to wait over an hour on a busy night even with reservations. If it's just you, you won't wait too long since you can just eat at the bar. The have fantastic sides and I love the brisket.

Have fun.

Hey, ill be in town on Wednesday for my Flyers. A friend of mine said that the red wings have a few alumni guys who act as team ambassadors and are available to meet before games, I was wondering if this was true, and who the alumni are?

The Flyers usually have Bernie Parent, Dornhoffer, Bob Kelly and Todd Fedoruk.

Hey guys, I was wondering if there was anyone here that might be able to answer a slightly off topic question for me. I tried asking over on the Toronto board, but they're too busy wallowing in their losing and didn't notice or ignored me lol.

Anyways, I thought I could ask here since I'll be driving to Toronto through the Detroit area... will we need passports to get there and back into the US? or will a driver's license suffice? i've heard different things, but not from anyone who's actually driven across...

Any help is greatly appreciated ;)

Last I heard you need a passport these days or a special kind of license for the people that travel that route daily. The standard license no longer gets it done.

EDIT: seems to be the case, here is what the Detroit Tunnel tells you to do, the Bridge in both Port Huron and Detroit will also function on the same system. Would suggest going through Port Huron if you're going from GR, your listed location 69 straight across through Sarnia, cuts about a half and hour off your trip.

A valid Passport, Passport Card, or enhanced driver's license is necessary to get over and back. I have the Passport card which costs $60 and is well worth it.
