OT: Visiting Chicago 2 - All Pizza, All the Time

Hey everyone. I’m going to be coming into town with a group of friends Friday for the game. I was just wondering if anyone here has any recommendations on places to find tickets outside of the usual (stubhub, nhl ticket exchange, seatgeek)

Thanks!
Gametime is alright.

Just came home to visit and the Lou Malnati’s in Naperville had a good pan pie. Portillos isnt what it once was growing up tho.

Lou is good but it’s still the ‘chain’ vibe.
Portillos is good but they are basically like McDonalds now in that they are everywhere.

if you come to Chicago, get your pizza at Pequods and for hot dogs go to Gene and Judes or Jimmy’s on Grand and Pulaski

you can thank me later.

I tried to visit Pequods this time I was over, but they place was soooo busy with a 2hour wait for a table and just as long for take out :(

It was also my second visit to the UC and I happen to go to the Devils game :ha:

We have several Lou Malnati's locations in Phoenix. I think they are excellent but Gino's East was slightly better. Unfortunately Gino's closed their only Phoenix location.

I’m not a fan of Chicago pizza, but when I lived there I really liked the Malnati’s thin crust.

Must be nice you guys to visit or live in Chicago.

I'm just going eat pizza and drink Goose Island beer, when I finally get my ass there. :thumbu:

Goose Island was bought by Anheuser-Busch about 2014-15ish. I'd imagine its a national brand now.

Didn't know that they were bought out. huh. It's on tap at the Jets games. I'm the type of guy who drinks beers from their founded state when I visit. :thumbu:

Hey guys, I'll be in town for the game Wednesday night v. NYR. I didn't see a ticket thread so figured I'd post here. If anyone's looking to sell a pair in the 100's or 200's (even if it is to a Rangers fan), shoot me a PM. It'd be nice to save on fees for both buyer and seller.

Sorry to bother, but I have a layover in Chicago from 10PM to 2PM the next day on Saturday, I was wondering if you guys could give me tips.

1: With whats going on, I don't play on doing anything, or there being anything to do, but I do want to walk around. I was told its best to find a train from the airport to downtown instead of a cab. Once I'm downtown is it possible to see everything walking around, what i mean by everything is Wrigley field, Solider Stadium, Guarantee field, United Center, and stuff like Millennium park.

I actually like to walk so the plan is go downtown and walk for a few hours, is that even possible and if you guys have any tips.

thanks!!!!

Flying into O'Hare or Midway?

Flying into O'Hare or Midway?

O'Hare, I land at like 10PM, I was thinking of just staying at hotel and walking up at 5AM, and try to walk around until 11:30ish until I go catch my flight.

Maybe there is a train ride that lets me see most of the city. I've always wanted to visit Chicago, too bad its not the most ideal way, but I might as well make the best out of this.

Thanks for getting back to me!!!

The blue line runs from O’Hare to the city center for like $5. Forty five minute shot.

Edit: or it did. No idea if anything has changed due to covid.

None of the stadiums are downtown. Soldier Field and the United Center are the closest, but still are over 2 miles each from Millennium Park, and in completely opposite directions.

What you could do is:
- Take the Blue Line to the Loop, and walk to Millennium Park
- Make the walk south to Soldier Field, taking in Grant Park and the Museum Campus along the way
- Get on the Red Line at Roosevelt
- Take it south 2 stops to GR Field (you'll get a nice view of Chinatown along the way)
- Get off, see the park, get back on (only a $0.25 transfer) and take it north to Wrigley
- Explore there a bit and then from there you could take the Addison bus back to the Blue Line to head back to O'Hare

Thanks so much, seems like a good and easy plan to follow.

My local PBS station ran this 53-minute look at Chicago by a drone that was produced by WTTW - breaktaking video

Chicago Tours with Geoffrey Baer | Chicago from the Air with Geoffrey Baer

Imagine if you could soar, swoop, dive, and spiral through and around Chicago’s landmarks, neighborhoods, and suburbs – with a familiar voice providing engaging commentary along the way. Chicago from the Air, a new special filmed entirely with a drone camera and narrated by WTTW’s Geoffrey Baer, makes this dream a reality.

Hi all,
Flyers fan coming in peace. I recently bought a Blackhawks jersey, which I have always wanted and finally pulled the trigger.
I searched unsuccessfully, but do you guys have a jersey talk thread somewhere in this forum (a link, perhaps?). I would like to get it customized with a player name/number and I would prefer to get it done right. Any suggestions for where to send it?
In Philly, we can send to the company who does the Flyers on-ice uniforms. Is there a similar situation in Chicago? I know you take your jerseys seriously out there, so I trust your judgement.

Thanks for your help!

Is Russell's barbeque still open in Chicago?

I have family in Chicago but haven’t visited since the pandemic hit, so someone local maybe able to correct me if I’m wrong, but the Elmwood Park location should still be open. That being said, I’d suggest checking Yelp and some online lists as in my opinion they’re not the best Chicago has to offer BBQ wise in my honest opinion.

The one on Thatcher and North Ave is still there. I think there was one in LaGrange too. They had one in Schaumburg that closed a couple of years ago.

I loved that place as a kid. BBQ beef on a burger bun with fries and corn on the cob - served on a paper plate with another paper plate on top of it. In a very dated building with pine paneling. Loved it!

Russel’s in elmwood has been open for pickup/drive up only through most of the pandemic. I live close by but have never tried it or Johnny’s beef. I hate waiting in line so much that I’d rather get something close but not quite as good.
