After 34 I am finally going to my first Bruins game in Boston Feb 11th ! Was a gift from my gf. First time in Boston and wondering what are some cool attractions to visit ? I have reservations at Night Shift prior to the game. Looking for a nice restaurant for after or on the Friday night. Flying in Friday morning from Halifax Nova Scotia and coming back Monday. Also staying close by to the rink.

TD Garden is by the North End, which is Boston's Little Italy. Throw a rock in the North End and you will hit a place with good to great Italian food.

If you are into history, the Freedom Trail hits most of the important sites which played a role in the revolution. Pick it up at Faneuil Hall and follow the clearly marked red line.

If you like museums, the MFA, the Isabella Stewart Gardner and the Fogg at Harvard are world class art museums. The Museum of Natural History at Harvard is an underrated gem.

Thank you so much !!

Plus, all of the above are accessible by the T. Get yourself a Charlie Card and load it up with a few bucks. That'll save you from trying to drive on our notorious former cow paths amongst the infamous Masshole drivers. Our T is very safe, our drivers, not so much.

Parking Near the Garden: (Bruins/Celtics)

**There is parking underneath the Garden. It is convienient before the game, to park and just head up to the ice/court, however the spaces are very narrow, the crew makes you back into a spot, and leaving after is nearly always a hassel. Not my personal favorite place, but the garage under the Garden is available.**

Other Fun Things to Touch Upon

Going to the Garden:

-Doors open an hour before game time, i.e., 6:00 for a 7:00 game, 12:00 for a 1:00 game, etc.
-Warm ups are open to anyone, and you can get as close to the ice as you want until game time in which you will forced to go to your assigned seat.
-The TD Garden does not serve alcohol to anyone under 25 with an out of state ID.
-The proshop is located on the same level as the train station in the Garden, before going up the stairs/escalators to enter tha game. It is open before and after the game on all game days, and business hours on non-game days.
-Bruins practices in Wilmington are typically opened to the Public, unless otherwise noted.

Understanding the language:

barrel
- a trash can, garbage can
blinkahs - automobile directional signals[34]
Bubblah – drinking fountain.
Bulls**t - has a second meaning of "very angry"
clam diggers - short pants worn in the summer time
"clickah/channel changer" - a television remote control
frappe (pronounced /fræp/) – 'a blend of ice cream, milk, and syrup (In Boston milkshake refers to a concoction without ice cream, but merely with milk blended with flavored syrup by shaking.
grindah - a baked submarine sandwich... NOT the equivalent of a toasted sub
hub - Boston
jimmies – 'chocolate ice cream sprinkles'/ rainbow jimmies - colored ice cream sprinkles
packie – liquor store (from "package store")[42]
pissah - means something akin to "great" either realistically or sarcastically.
rotary – 'traffic circle
Staties - Massachusetts State Troopers
wicked - 'very', in the extreme; as in 'wicked pissa' meaning 'very good'.

Moving to Boston? A few things to Consider:

-You should not recognize the letter “R” as a part of the English language.
- You know what a “regular” coffee is.
-You should keep an ice scraper in your car year-round.
- You should learn to tell the difference between a Revere accent and a Dorchester accent.
- You should know how to pronounce the names of towns like Worcester, Billerica, Gloucester, and Haverhill.
-You should know how to pronounce Yastrzemski. 20. You order iced coffee in January
- You should know what they sell at a Packie.
-You should kbnow what First Night is.
-The words ‘WICKED’ and ‘GOOD’ go together.
-You should own a “Yankees Suck” shirt or Hat.
-You should know what a frappe is.
-You should be able to complete the Following: “Lynn, Lynn…”
-You should know how to merge from 6 lanes of traffic to 1.
-You should know that Johnny Damon and Roger Clemens are more evil than Whitey Buldger.
-You are expected to know who Whitey Bulger is.
Alicat, this is the first time I have seen this. It was a lot of work by you, just an excellent job. Thanks for doing this. It should make people look forward to Boston and the Boston area.

After a bruins game what a good bar to go to

Give us more specifics on what you're looking for from a post-Bruins game bar experience. Full of hockey fans? Close to the arena or in the best spot in Boston? Loud and drunk? Drunk and fun? Drunk and sad? Someone will be able to give you an exact recommendation.

My advice is stay away from the Fanueil Hall bars at night. If you want to stay close there are some good spots in the North End but if you don't care if you walk 15 or so minutes the Newberry/Boylston St area has a lot of bars I think will work too.

Two things about the Seaport District:

1) It's very nice and has a lot of nice places.

2) Almost everyone in Boston, even people who go there, hate it. It's like someone built a random Sim neighborhood with no general concept and based on a poor description of Tokyo all before they plopped it down in Boston without consideration of how it works within the city.

Hey folks,
Just packing for my first trip to Boston, am I forgetting anything??
AF255554-77B1-43CE-B3FF-E7FF25EEF923.jpeg

and...
We would like to go see the Sox before the Bruins game this Thursday. When would we have to leave Fenway to make it back to the Garden for warmups? According to Google maps the trip should take about 30 minutes via transit, is that accurate? I’m assuming on game day the trip might take longer. Also, the forecast is a little sketchy for Thursday so I would like to hold off on purchasing tickets until closer to game day. Would walk up’s still be available Wednesday or Thursday? I’m not looking for anything price, a couple of seats in the OF bleachers or grandstand.
Thanks all!

that's why there's always a off day built in to opening week @ Fenway..... might want to check the Sox site as well to determine what the availability is for what u are seeking, and what is/isn't allowed in either arena/stadium would be the best place to start for the Sox as long as the B's tix are accounted for good luck

30 minutes transit? That depends, if you're taking the MBTA (subway system) that could quickly become an hour and 30 minutes. They're horribly unreliable and constantly have breakdowns. I'd take a Lyft or Uber personally.

A few questions for anyone that can help:

Coming to Boston in Late June. Staying near Assembly Row in Sommmerville.

-We will be arriving on a Saturday, probably early afternoon coming from the West. Masspike to downtown and then north on 93 is the suggested route, is that the best route driving in?

-We want to spend an afternoon in Lexington/Concord, probably on a Sunday. Sunday late morning will traffic be an issue driving there from Sommerville? If so are there any easy alternatives to getting there and back.

-Might be going up to Salem on a Monday or Tuesday. Train the best bet? Or is driving better or any other options?

Finally, anyone have any suggestions for 'fun' places to eat? By that I mean a restaurant that is nicer than average but yet one where the kid can have fun and is just nice to 'look at' inside? I know that is a vague descritption, but I'm wondering if there are any ideas that I haven't found yet.

1. Yes

2. Lexington and Concord can be reached via Route 2. Its the scenic route, and should not be bad traffic-wise, especially on a Sunday. Just avoid the memorial drive shutdown (shutdown on sundays for the summer usually, IIRC).

3. Salem can be tougher to get to, as theres limited ways in and out of the city. If you are coming from Boston, take Rt. 1 North over the tobin bridge if you are driving. If you are taking the train, it will drop you within a 5 minute walk of downtown salem. Sounds like train is your best bet here, as you wont have to worry about parking in salem (mostly meters and a few pay lots).

Salem has some good breakfast / brunch places. As far as places to eat in Boston, im sure someone else will chime in.

Like any big city you want to be aware of your surroundings but that is a safe enough area to walk at night.
