Could it be a showcase move, oh sorry no such thing, they don't do that.:sarcasm:

I don't know .001% of what Sacco, Sweeney, Neely, et. al know about hockey --- but I just don't understand how a goal-starved team can give Lysell 1 game -- where he was a +1 --- had a role in a GF (didn't get the assist though) and then bury him in Providence again.

I have no idea if this kid is going to make it or be a forever AHL'er -- but if there ever was a time to find out, wouldn't right now be it?

I know it’s not the name many hoped to see after McLaughlin was put on waivers to be sent down. At 29, he’s put up only 27 points in 129 NHL games.

Hard to say he hasn’t earned an opportunity however? He’s been a point-per-game player in Providence over two stints. He’s a hard worker.

People were surprised that Brazeau got the call last season and he immediately acclimated himself well. Maybe we see something similar here?

Maybe trying to teach him a lesson? Make him so hungry to be in the NHL that he never wants to go back to the AHL.
Maybe they feel that he had an entitled attitude and this is their attempt and bringing him down a peg?
Just putting it up here as food for thought.

Definitely possible.

He has for sure earned the shot. Still a bit annoying they go with these tweeners instead of their homegrown guys all the time. Still I hope he brings something they're missing.

"The 5-foot-10, 184-pound forward currently leads Providence skaters in goals and points, while also ranking third in points among active AHL players."

Doesn't that warrant a call-up? Don't we want performance rewarded?
At 29 and a few weeks away from turning 30 where does he go from here? I get he's doing really good in the A, but I'd just soon see a kid with upside be given a chance, and if the reason is they don't want to expose them to the dysfunction of this team, its time to get rid of the conductor.

I don't have a big problem with Letteri, but I also think they need to give other talented guys a shot as well.

I'd be fine with Letteri playing in place of Kastelic (if he's out) and Lysell in for Beecher tomorrow. If Kastelic is back, give them each a game in place of Beecher this week.

Absolutely. Poitras needs to come up as well.

I guess if you looks at things in black and white. Nevermind, that he's also a nearly 30 year old career AHLer who has already proven he doesn't belong in the NHL.

Ah yes another plug (don't care, he's a career AHLer and age 30) rather than one of the two or three decent prospects you have when you're starved for anything offensively.

Surely this one will make an impact. Surely.

“Vinni’s played very well in Providence. Leading scorer down there,” Sacco said. “Deserves an opportunity to come up and play. … Guys need to get rewarded, as well, when they play well for us, and he’s one of the guys. … Certainly, Vinni brings some speed to our lineup, a good shot, and has an ability to finish.”

...

While who gets called up is ultimately more of a Don Sweeney decision than a Sacco decision, Sacco reiterated that the team simply believes Lettieri is the most deserving at this moment, and that the door isn’t closed on someone else getting a shot at some point.

“I think right now, just based on what we have, we’re looking at a little bit of speed element there,” Sacco said. “His confidence level right now is pretty high, so we’re hoping that carries over to our level here with our group. And it’s not to say that other guys at some point won’t be getting an opportunity as well. We’ll see. But he was the guy, right now, he’s deserving of the opportunity basically based on merit.”
