Anyone playing CoD? The thread on the main boards is super negative. I have been playing for the past week sporadically and don’t really hold the same opinion as they do.

I bought the PC version. It crashes constantly, despite following all the suggestions with regards to driver updates, shaders, etc.

It’s also a 129gb download.

Seriously considering returning it for being literally unplayable.

CoD modern warfare 2 was the last title on that franchise that I played the hell out of but the whole no more dedicated server thing in the following release I stopped. Picked up the first Black Ops but it never stuck with me. Between that and multiple BF releases that I've picked up and it never stuck kinda feel gun shy at this point. I pretty much only play TDM so I think my gamer age is showing, hah.

Outer Worlds is pretty good. It's basically a Fallout game with a somewhat smaller scope.

Definitely enjoying it so far. Outer Worlds has fantastic writing. I agree on the smaller scope. They have laid a great foundation to expand upon.

New Vegas is one of my favorite games in general. Makes me wish that Obsidian was able to make another Fallout game.

I saw the complaints about the PC version. I'm playing on Xbox and I haven't had any issues. The size of the game though is insane. I had to delete multiple games off my console that I don't play anymore to fit it on. I think it might be even bigger than GTA

Hadn't got to the point of actually checking the PC version feedback but thanks for the heads up.

I'm wary of online complaints and reviews. The positive stuff is usually marketing and the negative stuff is almost always a factor of the internet-as-complaint-box effect.

Like it so far on the Xbox. It is definitely a change of pace over the last bunch of years. Being able to edit load outs in game is pretty awesome. I want to say the map pool is kind of small but really the count is split over 3 size lobbies so fair enough. I do think Piccadilly and the bridge maps are total garbage due to play pattern issues but the other ones have good replayability to them.

The gunsmith is nice overall. I wish the amount of items per slot were a bit more even and not so heavy in the sights and perks. Who is seriously using the perk that your melee swing stuns the target a split second longer…

So, Borderlands 3.

Maybe spoilers maybe not, so to be safe:

It's a Borderlands game. That's about it.

I like some of the new features like toggling special weapons effects (for example a gun may be able to switch between shock and corrosive); and I appreciate the ability to hit "jump" a second time while in the air to scale higher objects, but what else has improved, or changed much?

The story hasn't grabbed me yet but I'm barely off Pandora, so who knows. They've clearly taken more of a Mass Effect approach to a "galaxy map" fast travel model, which I guess is cool, but the side missions are very "meh" which makes the travel seem kind of pointless beyond the main quest. And even that's a little simplistic and vague, if that makes sense.

The new villains are levels below Handsome Jack in quality and just seem like Poochy-esque "wiggity wiggity WHACK to the EXTREME!" snotty brats. I miss Jack's sardonic, subtle cruelty.

It has the usual annoyances of NPCs hanging around you at vending machines repeating inane blather (Claptrap is especially bothersome, as always), though some of the lines are funny coming from the Atlas soldiers nearby.

So far there's not been enough easter eggs, witty banter, or even uses for that extra jumping beyond scaling obviously placed cargo boxes.

Some targets have "ghosts" in them that release and attack you when you kill the body. Apparently this is for some side quest but I haven't seen any benefit yet, just annoying ghost attacks that can hamper you.

There's an abundance of small ammo boxes etc to make sure you never run out of ammo, which makes the game seem very easy a lot of the time on the default setting, but of course some of the boss or badass ambushes can put a hurting on you quickly. So it doesn't seem as measured for leveling or balanced challenges as previous installations.

Which brings me to the skill tree. What the f*** is this thing? I suppose it's cool in concept to have all these slots and abilities to unlock and assign, but the way they're tied to one of three special abilities makes no sense. Some basic upgrades are isolated in trees that force you to use one load out and not the others, so if you want to change your action skill you lose a lot of your basic buffs (or you have to pay to reassign points).

Give me back my turret!

Overall it's very reliant on vehicle travel, even in the "urban" areas. Again this is just a few sites into the game so it may change. But right now I feel like I'm basically driving around from one quest section to another. Any time you exit your vehicle expect to be attacked by another vehicle within 30 or so seconds.

Maybe my reconstructive memory of past games is warped but this one seems like the same basic programming with new maps and worse story. So far. It may get better.

Ok found an area that's fairly vast and more complex/interesting so we'll see...

Insane visuals, but the caveat is "in engine footage". Ninja Theory does have a pretty good track record with visuals, so it will be interesting to see what they can do, especially now that they have Microsoft's money

Ok need some advice. On PS4 should I start God of War III, Detroit: Become Human, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Nioh, or Uncharted 4? Have some free time over the holidays and want to mindlessly play video games for a few days. I purchased or downloaded these mostly via PS+ but never had time to dive into them. If I recall GoW is a button-masher which I’m not a huge fan of but I could be wrong.

Do you like Souls-style games? If so, try Nioh. It's good but not quite great.

I liked Detroit a lot more than I thought I would.

I am still enjoying Stellaris. Great 4X game.

The Great Khan wrecked me when I first played Stellaris!

I finally got around to Sekiro. Owl (Father) is brutally owning me right now, but loving all of it. Great game.

anyone play the Total War War Hammer games? Thinking of jumping, but not sure what DLC to get first

I bought War Hammer II during the latest Steam sale but I haven’t played it yet. I have played pretty much every other one extensively though. In general I’ve enjoyed them all with Rome 2, Atilla, and Napoleon my favorites.

I have both I and II - I actually recommend starting small - just get the base game (I recommend II) - see how much you dig it. There are so many pieces of DLC that it's hard to keep up. If it's not for you, no loss. If you dig, then you can splash on the bundles.

Obvious advice is obvious, but I think TWWHII has a problem with so much DLC that it's hard to keep track of.

Ended up getting both so I can play the Mortal Empires campaign. As for DLC, I went with the human/elves stuff. Will get the rest whenever the next sale is.

In other news, can't say I'm surprised:

Evgeny Kuznetsov should probably stick to hockey on the ice. Kuzy took on an Esports pro and got smacked in NHL 20. (Washington Post)
