OT: Video Game Thread Part VIII

Haven't played in a month. Been playing The Show.

I still watch some streams and it seems like the same Heros/Icons in every pack for this promo.
It sure is

Baby Zola x3
Baby Nedved x4
Baby Angerer x2
Baby Blanc x3
Mostovoi x3
Al Jaber x2
Pain and Misery x1000

Sweatiest champs games of my life to go 10-5 and only get both forms of Angerer.

Warhammer 40K Rogue Trader is almost half off on Steam. I just beat it for the first time a week or two ago and absolutely loved it. My only real gripe is that combat is a bit slow since it's turn based, but that's really only an issue for the bigger fights. The leveling system is super fun, and there's a touch of ship based combat and colony management to keep things interesting.

My first run through took like 90 hours, so paying like $30 is a bargain.

It is very worth the time. The story is engaging enough, and the combat really is fun. The ability to make your characters absurdly overpowered is so much fun. So many games keep you on the rails, making sure each fight is 'fair'. Rogue Trader has no such compunction. If you make your build right, some characters can be butt-f***ingly over powered. I found a reddit post where a guy managed to do 1.5 million damage on one attack. I want to say the toughest enemy I remember had around 30,000 health, so take that how you will lol

If anyone is looking for a challenging game to play, The First Berserker Khazan is a good one.

The boss fights are excellent. They require a lot from the player but man…what a rush.

I'm partway into KCD2 now, what a terrific game. It's very challenging at first, to the point of being intimidating -- you're broke, combat is difficult, and it seems like any rando can and will beat you up.

But then the game rewards you for gutting that out and learning the skills you'll need to make better results happen. Very satisfying.
Plus the game is gorgeous, and the character is very likeable. Top notch all-around.

I'm wrapping up KCD1 - got it on sale for like $9 and wanted to do that one before the sequel. Have you played the first one?

Just based on my experience so far, it's very rewarding and I really enjoy the combat. It's immersive, and so is the rest of the game.

No, never played the first one- although I have read that doing so makes the sequel even better. You'll be well prepared.

Marathon actually looks pretty good. Hadn't even heard of it until a day ago and then I saw a little gameplay on YouTube today.

I really like the idea of extraction shooters but DMZ is dead (unfortunately because I played the hell out of that when it was still getting updates) and Escape from Tarkov is a little overwhelming to get into. This could be a nice "casual" version of the latter for people who are on console or don't want to take PhD-level courses to play a video game.

I havent touched it in a few weeks but yes. Completely.

Saw a commercial for it. Twice. On the second go around I finally realized it was for Oblivion and not Elder Scrolls Online, the elder scrolls that’s as old as you are.

Still no need for it.
But video games age like dog years. Every one year a games been out is like 7 years for a person.

It came out 20 years ago.
20 x 7 = 140
Which is roughly your age.

That’s the perfect age for a remaster. Freshen it up, make it look it pretty, and test out the Unreal engine for Elder scrolls 6, which is tracking to come out right around the time my great great grandchildren will be getting their first video games.

Probably not a need for it. However, I never played the original when it came out nearly 20 years ago so getting to play it now with graphics and gameplay revamped to meet today’s standards is nice. It’s a lot of fun so far
