Welcome to Vancouver/Abbostford Victor, nice hair btw
Do we know why he went to Sweden for two years before uni? I mean I could probably find it myself but I'm lazy.
This management/coach like big or strong defenseman over actual ability hence Forbort and VD signings, they keep playing Juulsen and now this acquisition.I'm extremely skeptical of this player. 5 points in 15 NHL games is nice. 35% xGF in over 200 sheltered minutes is horrific. That's literally the worse percentage in ALL defencemen who have played that many minutes this season. And it's not because he's playing for a bad team. His xGF% relative to his teammates is -20%. That's the worst number in the league by 7%.
I'm just blown away that management would give this coach an option like this. People saying that anyone would be better than Juulsen are living in a fantasy. He's a -7 in the AHL - if he plays regular minutes in Abbotsford, he'll hurt us there, too. Hope we weren't enjoying Abbotsford's recent success too much, because exchanging Brannstrom for him is going to sink them.

There has to be some limit to how far they'll stretch this, doesn't there???? Like squint and you might think that VD could be a cheap role player. This is baffling.
It's just amazing that he played as much and for as long as he did for the Rangers. Just a total indictment of their process there.
We should have held on to that pick.
EDIT: Just to add some context to his -7 in the AHL - he managed to do that in just 23 games while putting up 10 points. This is simply not a player who plays defence at a pro level.
He apparently has been playing 1D minutes for a team that is 27/32 in the AHL standings right now. I don't think you can read too much into a small-sample +/-. There are guys on that team in the -20s and most of the D are between -3 and -10.

Trying to find a correlation between a players NHL upside and their +/- while logging 1D minutes on a bad team is a fool's errand.Well yeah, +/- is obviously an extremely limited stat, but as a 22 year old he's on pace for -25 in the AHL. That doesn't suggest any kind of NHL upside.

Matt Roy was -21 in 45 games for the Ontario Reign during his 23-year old season.
All it really tells you is that he logs a lot of minutes on a bad team. Similar to some of the Edler seasons where he had an awful +/- because he was on the ice for 23-25 mins a game during our dark years. On it's own, you're right, as I said in my post. +/- is a poor stat but if you're looking for some evidence that this player is dominating the AHL despite his horrible NHL numbers, you'll find the opposite.
I mean, he's -9 in 43 games he has played pro and it's not like Hartford is a good team ATM. Hard to read much into that stat. NHL stats are concerning but it's pretty hard to read into 15 games in the NHL in his first year pro. It seems like he made the team out of camp, yo-yo'ed in the AHL/NHL then got called down in January and since then has been -4 in 17 games on the 26th team in the league. On it's own, you're right, as I said in my post. +/- is a poor stat but if you're looking for some evidence that this player is dominating the AHL despite his horrible NHL numbers, you'll find the opposite.
