His value is not that high anyway. Most people are saying he is washed. I am not Saad at all Leafs didn’t get him. He is washed. We already have Patches for the “washed veteran” role
He's being called washed but would've been called the ultimate disaster and worst signing of the year in the Six

Put on LTIR by accident out of reflex.

So how does this work? Does this mean the Blue are off the hook for the prorated 1.5 million that Vegas will pay? Or does Saad earn another prorated 1.5 million?

The actual pay is based on season days.

Saad signed a 1.5 million dollar contract for the season with Vegas. He won’t receive 1.5 million dollars. He will not receive pay for the season days that occurred prior to today. He did already receive that pay during his time at St. Louis.

To find out how much money he will get we could divide the 1.5 million annual value from his new deal by the total number of days in the season; then taking that daily rate and multiplying it by the number of remaining days to have an idea of what he would actually be paid by vegas. I’m lazy.

Saad was apparently supposed to sign with Edmonton. But I think Vegas pulled this move so they increase their chances on beating Edmonton.

Always liked Saad as a player. I think this move might rejuvenate his play. He still has some decent wheels which is usually the first that goes as players get older. Best of luck to him!

Saad’s best days are behind him, but I like the move.

Reliable mid-6er with a Cup pedigree who can still skate.

If he becomes a more offensively capable Tanner Pearson type who can decrease Holtz’s minutes, ‘sall good, man.

Now I want to see an improvement in net.

So with this contract, Saad winds up forfeiting ~$1.05M in salary this season...though with Vegas being a no income tax state, the take home amount is lower. A little bit of playoff money doesn't hurt either. Vegas also gives him a great opportunity to have an extended playoff run which helps him for a contract next year.

He's still walking away from $3.625M in salary next season for now, can still recoup a good chunk of that if things go well the next few months.

He was never walking away from $5M - probably $1.5-$2.0M over the next season and a half when all is said and done with a chance to extend his NHL career longer to offset that loss. Between signing with Vegas this season and being UFA next year, he's also giving himself much better chances of winning another Cup the next couple seasons than he would've had in St. Louis.

Solid decision on his part to walk away from his Blues contract. Yeah, there's still a small chance it blows up on him if he's completely cooked, but I doubt he's feeling that way and the change of scenery will probably do him good.

He also might have been bought out.

About $554.200. Very doable for Vegas.

great move by Vegas. no risk at all, to add a guy who knows how to win, 2. time Cup winner, who can skate, play with some edge, that is coming off a 26 goal season for no assets at all. For basically no $$$. I hate Vegas (Oiler fan), and sure, being in Vegas, great city, great weather, no state tax, is an advantage, but this is the best run franchise in the NHL, they know how to use their "advantages", hired the right hockey people, and aren't afraid to take risks to win, and don't care if they hurt feelings along the way. I am jealous that my team isn't ran the same way as Vegas.
