So how does this work? Does this mean the Blue are off the hook for the prorated 1.5 million that Vegas will pay? Or does Saad earn another prorated 1.5 million?

The actual pay is based on season days.

Saad signed a 1.5 million dollar contract for the season with Vegas. He won’t receive 1.5 million dollars. He will not receive pay for the season days that occurred prior to today. He did already receive that pay during his time at St. Louis.

To find out how much money he will get we could divide the 1.5 million annual value from his new deal by the total number of days in the season; then taking that daily rate and multiplying it by the number of remaining days to have an idea of what he would actually be paid by vegas. I’m lazy.

Saad was apparently supposed to sign with Edmonton. But I think Vegas pulled this move so they increase their chances on beating Edmonton.

Always liked Saad as a player. I think this move might rejuvenate his play. He still has some decent wheels which is usually the first that goes as players get older. Best of luck to him!
