What's sick is Gord Miller picked up on the headbut today but didn't say a thing when Veleno did it against Misyul. His bias is quite annoying.
o_O maybe he didnt say anything about veleno because
no sane person on the universe would see that as a head butt ???????????

Because Veleno's was barely a headbutt. There was no force. It was just two guys trying to out man eachother but getting up close.

The Russian one today was still weak but there is clear intent that he tried to hit the guy with his helmet to cause damage. A lot more force.
Bullshit, Veleno actually threw two headbuts.

Nodding threateningly, with minor contact = suspension. With that standard does Rtishchev get 2 games?

I suppose the IIHF wants to nip this crap in the bud, before a more blatant head-butt occurs. Veleno's action was stupid, but fairly innocuous.

That is absolutely insane. It could have been a Russian doing that to Veleno and I wouldn't even think it should be a penalty.

Yeah, that's a weak one.

If that's 1 game, the Russian player's should be about 5 games or so. It actually was intended as a headbutt, not as a macho show off move.

If that’s a dangerous play then all the players should be mandated to cover their whole bodies with bubble wrap 9 inches thick.

ffs!

Was actually thinking that. Veleno seemed more like posturing. Forehead to forehead. The Russian one today seemed a bit more headbutty.

...That's what I'm calling it. Shut up.

ridiculous suspension but no issues as long as they are consistent. russian kid needs to get banned a game.

Why wasn't it called right away? Why the wait until after the USA-Russia game has ended to release the suspension? I've had a lifetime of Canada getting screwed in international hockey.

Are we allowed to substitute and extra forward? What would happen if we were already two forwards short with injury. The damn result should be decided on the ice and not in the boardroom. It's bullshit.

I’ve been watching this tourney religiously since about 93. Why anyone is shocked that the IIHF gave a game suspension for this is beyond me.

This isn’t a new phenomenon them handing out chintzy penalties and suspensions at this tournament. Veleno should have been cognizant of this, as should all our players going forward.

We are only losing him against Germany so it (theoretically) shouldn’t be a big deal.

I...don't even know where to begin with that being called a suspension-worthy head-butt. It's a light tap. I'm guessing they suspended him for the intention behind it (of using the head / helmet?), but still...yikes.

I'm pretty sure Gord did mention it when Veleno did it. I recall a slow mo replay of it after the fact and gord commentating on the clip.

Weak, but he brings very little to Canada.

International hockey could be so much better, but the IIHF and their soft refs make it almost unbearable at times.
