Can we interest you in playoff superstar Sergei Bobrocsky?

Funny enough. If the Pens had Bobrovsky this past season, they make the playoffs. And if they had him two years ago they beat the Rangers. I'm not totally opposed to him at the right amount and if there is a kicker.

But I really hate when people come into threads and take it away form the original topic. There is already a general thread about goaltending to the Pens. So let's take the discussion there. Value of: - Goalie to Pittsburgh

So the Pens would be better off trading for Sam Montembeault then? Because he has a better GSAx over the past two years and they were both on comparably crap teams. Montembault was -17.3 last season and Vejmelka was -23.2. And he makes 1 mil next season.
Sure, maybe? Montenbeault was really good this year. He’s certainly not somebody the Habs are looking to move. He’s an absolute bargain, has improved a ton and is by far their best goalie.

Vejmelka has 102 starts the last two seasons as the lock #1 on his team, Monty had 78 as a platoon starter. That’s a significant difference in workload and risk though.

Would this trade have made the Penguins Stanley Cup Champions, at this years Deadline?

No.

Maybe start with Keller if you’re pawning off two firsts.

As a Coyotes fan, I think they should move both Schmaltz and Vejmelka, not because they aren't good players, but because their ages aren't in line with the competitive window the Coyotes are constructing in this rebuild. If they win a lottery, that changes, but they've never won a lottery before.

The GM said at season's end that Schmaltz and Vejmelka are part of the core, so they are unlikely to trade either of them.

Vejmelka is still building consistency, but he single-handedly keeps them in games that they have no business hanging around in against really good teams on a regular basis. His strong performances have made the team keep hope through the depths of the rebuild. I think they're very hesitant to pull that hope out from under the young team right now.

I don't think so, because if the Pens had Bob, they wouldn't have been able to resign both Letang and Malkin so they probably don't make the playoffs.

No need to make this trade when Pittsburgh can probably get Gibson from Anaheim for cheaper.

Seems like an awful lot to give up for what you are getting.

Dont get me wrong we need those pieces but that leaves us with nothing to get to where we need to be, no room to go out and get that impact player that would put us where we need to be.

Doesn't make sense

I would be legitimately angry if the Pens expended that many assets on trade for a G, no matter how good they are.

There are a potential bumper crop of free agent goalies this year. They can be signed for the price of cap room. They are older, but that doesnt matter when your core is old as dirt. In a year with Raanta, Varly, Anderson, Talbot, Korpisalo, etc, I'll roll the dice that one of them can be snared at a good price.

Use those assets to plug up the other holes on the team, of which there are many. Or when it comes to the first, just keep it if there is no good deal.

No brainer for Arizona. I expect Schmaltz to be traded for sure this offseason given his salary commitments and he's got a M-NTC about to kick in:

I agree and posted this same point previously re: Schmaltz. I'd also be surprised if he's still on AZ's roster on July 1st. I haven't seen him play enough to have an opinion on his value, other than to say that as a general proposition you have to be careful about guys who put up points as a result of getting prime ice time opportunities they might not get elsewhere.

Schmaltz would likely be getting softer minutes on Malkin’s line than he is in Arizona tbh. And he isn’t a big powerplay guy so I’d be fine with it.

I'm talking about the performance independent of the cap hit.
I understand that - in a vacuum the Pens would have probably had more wins with Bob as their starting goalie but the reality of the situation is that a $10 million dollar goalie really causes some other cap issues which will in turn impact the teams overall success

I fully understand how the cap works. :) My statement was just, for how much shit Bob gets, his performance the past two seasons was above what the Penguins have gotten from their goaltenders.

It’s extremely tempting. Allows AZ to re-sign Ingram and run with him and DeSmith. The Coyotes obviously need a lot of help on the blueline. Ty Smith fits the age profile of other recent reclaimation projects. And the two 1sts are very appealing.

I’d say you could keep the 2nd rounder and it’d still be fair value.

The question is what will Arizona want to do this summer. They over achieved and had very good vibes all year. Key players stepped up and youngsters developed nicely. How do core players like Keller, Crouse, Hayton, McBain, Maccelli, Moser, Valimaki, etc react is the GM once again absolutely knee-caps the team and tanks for yet another season?

Does Keller demand a trade? Does Crouse have a crisis. Does the team self-destruct, and does the stink of losing and frustration stain the youngsters? Will our quality young coaching staff lose the room and will things get toxic?

I’m not sure if it’s worth it for another couple of late 1sts. But it’s a very tempting gamble. The team likes Ingram and he’s played well. Meanwhile, maybe they could overpay the heck out of Ivan Barbashev as a UFA and help mend fences on the Schmaltz front. It’s a decent gamble.

I’m 50/50
