The NHL and the NHLPA has to go back and collective bargain that rule change to where players can play regular season but not playoffs in a post deadline trade.
They apparently don't want this as teams would try load up late in the season for that extra push

Honestly what playoff team would want him with an extra year? It's probably going to be a non-playoff team. So why not take at the very least a free 2nd rounder?
I wonder if the M-NTC will still be an issue though. Bad teams will be on the list. Bubble teams want a player they can use. Good teams can't fit him in or use him.

I wonder if they found it yet

But yes it could very well be an issue.

Dadonov and a 2nd to AZ.

Then AZ retains 50% and trades him to a playoff team at the draft for another 2nd.

Two free 2nds for AZ.

Minor problem: I don't think AZ gets any salary retention slots back until a week after the draft.

Also that's $4.25m for two 2nd round picks, which is kinda on the low value side, especially with locking up one of the two remaining salary retention slots for next season.

Dadonov and Chayka for no return now. Dadonov (50%) to NYR a week after the draft for Kravtsov.

As if a non playoff team wants to add 6.5 of salary for next year. Plus it has to be a select few of them

I am not 100% clear on the rules but if the Knights sent Reilly Smith and a pick to Chicago for Andrew Shaw's LTIR contract, would Smith not be allowed to play for the rest of the season?

If somehow the Sharks aren't on his no trade, we would absolutely take him for a first. We don't care what happens to us this year and he would actually be a good top 6 fit for us next year. Plus if vegas misses the playoffs this year anyway, it would be really really funny

Here's the problem they have to cause you can't keep a healthy player on the LTIR so vegas has to move someone or multiple players to reactivate martinez and/or stone depending on if one or both are healthy enough to come off it.

Correct Smith would not be allowed to play until next season.

If it isnt Dadonov I wonder what players other teams would agree to take going forward

Arizona would do it for a fee. Especially given there’s likely a market for him when a retention slot opens a up after the draft. Yotes can get an asset from Vegas and then another asset from some other team in the off-season, when they’re able to retain.

Then it’s only 3.25 in salary, rather than 6.5. And they get assets from two separate transactions.

If Dadonov is traded he can't play at all. Which makes this extra shitty for him but it is what it is.
I keep seeing this that he can’t play, why is that? I thought if you’re traded after the deadline, you just aren’t eligible for the playoffs. Did a rule change or is there something specific with Dadonov?

If I'm another western conference team, I'd be pissed if Dadanov is traded and allowed to play.

It's their own fault and should not be any exceptions. Revisit the rule in the summer.

I actually think allowing Vegas to trade Dadonov and allowing him to play for the rest of the year is a completely reasonable call by the NHL.

I think the NHL scolding Ottawa for causing the confusion at the beginning and telling Vegas "your trade is voided, make another one now or you're out of luck" is a pretty reasonable outcome here.
It might be a CBA issue to let him play though. Rules are rules, they aren't supposed to break them just because they can.
