I thought the boys played real well tonight for the most part. I don't know what the fancy stats are going to show but I thought by my eyes the chances were probably even for both teams during the last two periods.
Winning when you're missing Monahan on the road versus a team like Vegas is not easy.
I'm looking forward to seeing the game in Utah tomorrow. If they win back-to-back games on the road then I think it would serve their best interest to pay for my future trips to watch them. LOL

I don’t know, Z is very good defensively and I am super impressed with how Mateychuk sticks to high skill offensive players while defending.

I really don’t think we did after the first period. We got outplayed but I wouldn’t say dominated. Neither team really had much
I was so nervous watching the late stages of the third period. I haven't been nervous like that for a couple years. The craziness this team is dealing with and they're laying it down and winning in Vegas. This is fun!
This has been awesome to watch. I remember a play against NYR where Panarin had the puck and Mateychuk looked like his shadow.

Felt like they had the puck in our zone all night, and that we had zero forecheck idk. Seemed like they had quite a few posts and dangerous shots from the point that barely missed or hit guys in front. Maybe I’m just being negative!
11-2 with Mateychuk in the lineup.
Mateychuk is still pretty far from being our best defensive player. He has the attributes and innate smarts for it, and I think that's what we're seeing, but he hasn't put it all together yet. I think he'll be a more valuable defensive player when he gets his timing down and learns when he can jump up in the neutral zone against NHLers, that and shorten his gaps. Right now he's hanging back a lot to avoid getting beat, and the puck ends up in our end.
We've been outscored with Mateychuk on the ice, 9-7. I think he's a big add regardless and I expect him to keep getting better, but we're not 11-2 because of him.

Not saying they are because of him! IMO, this was not his best game. The advanced stats on Moneypuck favor him, but I thought tonight was a great showing of how he needs to get stronger.

Random fun fact: The owner of the Knights is either from where I live in Montana, or lives here part time. He owns one of the main restaurant groups in town so there are a couple of dedicated Golden Knights bars. They brought the cup there a couple years ago, so the Knights have a weirdly large presence here because of that.
Anyways, that makes beating the Knights all the bit sweeter, because f*** em for being handed a cup on a silver platter.

he’s now given up just 4 goals in 3 career games in vegas. a .955 save percentage. he easily plays the best in this building out of any other in the league. impressive!

Just being PropheticThe CBJ have not made the playoffs in like four seasons and been one of the worst teams in the league over that stretch, have won just one playoff series in their entire existence and the fanbase is excited because they are actually playing relevant games at the end of January. The Knights have been to the playoffs every season except once during their short seven year existence, won a SC, made at least the third round of the playoffs four times and are currently battling for first place in their division .
And their GDT thread opens by calling their team "The Losers". SMH.

Yup, thought about that same play last night, he’s like a man cover cornerback. It’s exciting to think he’s just scratching the surface of what is to come.
Clearly the players think so but I thought others were more deserving. Maybe that A is meaning more and more and he is becoming a ‘must’ re-sign. Did others watching think he deserved the donkey?

Exactly. It feels like we've been watching him forever. He can be frustrating but he's way ahead of most 21 year olds. I still think he could be a damn good 3C on a good team.

Best game the Jackets have played in years .. Elvis was amazing .. Fantilli is turning into a star , and Sillinger continues to keep getting better and better . Evason should win coach of the year
.. we were getting badly out for checked in beginning … and we adjusted to what they were doing minus Monahan, Chinakov, Jenner .. went toe to toe playing defensive hockey on the road against maybe a cup favorite , and beat them playing that style . Great win

I feel like he’s going to be exactly that and it’s going to be here. I know we (broadly) think he’s problematic as a player but he’s got something that makes his coaches trust him and it’s not just a matter of having them fooled. It’s clear Evason falls in this camp too.
I’m just gonna say right now that if he is in fact traded as a piece to land a high end player I will be very surprised.
