Sickening? It might be that flu going around, because that defense was fine.

There wasn't a screen. I doublechecked. Christiansen got out of the way well in time so Elvis could see it. Mayyybe the stick obscured the release?

and that lies the problem. “christansen got out of the way”… easily could’ve blocked that to prevent a goal. he hops out of the way as soon as the puck is shot.

Ending period one tied is great after that start. I actually thought Voronkov scored that goal but I didn’t get the best look at it.

They switched the centers last shift, we'll see if that lasts.

It helps when Voronkov has defenders draped on him and Fantilli can get free to hunt for pucks.
Indeed but it’s also about positioning and having enough in your hips and shoulders to win those battles. Voronkov certainly helps, hell he’s responsible for a lot of their good net play.

I'm sure he would have stayed in the lane if he didn't have a guy to cover on the other side of him. I'm not sure exactly how to handle that mini 2v1 situation. Maybe he misplayed it but Christiansen is usually an eager shot blocker so I think your "sickening" comment is out of proportion here.

an “eager shot blocker”?

out of all 5 defensemen on our team who have played more than 35 games, he has the least amount of blocks.

to put in perspective, fabbro has 43 more blocks in 16 less games played. now that’s an ‘eager shot blocker’

Maybe. Just seemed like an odd scenario or miscommunication because it looked like he was actively trying to get out of the way of the shot.

I think it just looked weird with the little hop. But I don't think that's Christiansen trying to avoid getting hit with the puck, I think he realized he's got two guys to cover and since he can't commit to staying in the shot lane, he better get out quick. The worst thing is when you are half in providing a screen.

I think we're a bit fortunate to be tied. That power play. LOL. Seems like old times.

First game of the year and I'm 2000 miles away to see it. If anybody ever gets a chance to come out and see a game in Vegas do it. It's a different environment.

To be honest, these days they all look like eager shot blockers to me. I don't think any of our guys are bailing on shot blocks like guys used to do 10+ or 20+ years ago. Christiansen knows its his job. We've never had a convo about him not blocking shots before, just this one time, where it was a 2v1 and he might not supposed to be committing to blocking the shot.

the Jackets are just going to have to grind like hell to win beat Vegas as we basically aren’t even icing two lines that can score.
