Disappointed in that we have a GM that can't do anything beyond amateur drafting. NHL rewards bad GM'ing via higher draft position. I question our player development (beyond those that are blue chip prospects like Hughes or Horvat; or non-goalies).
I used to have that stance. I was posting on the tanker thread for 5 straight years, but every now and then, one should do an internal audit of your positions. Jimbo is not a smart man by any means, but he does exhibit a (very latent) ability to learn on the job.
Roussel was an astute signing, trading away Guddy for Pearson is good asset management. Acquiring Leivo was being opportunistic of another teams misfortune. Getting Edler to sign for 2 years only demonstrates an ability to play hardball with important pieces (he could've cratered a la Nylander), targeting Miller paid off and gave him a win in pro scouting. The development of Gaudette, Madden, and dePietro (rathbone?) is promising for amateur scouting beyond the obvious.
I'm happy that I can post this after continually slagging him for 3-4 years. If we do make the playoffs then it will be a decently successful rebuild (~6 years??), unlike the complete tirefire that we envisioned before the emergence of the church of Pettersson post Sedin retirement.
It's too early to worry about ViPod, he does soo many things well, rookies don't do well in KHL, and he's decent in the V, let's just extend our vision and wait for his encore in WJC. His M.O. fits our team need to a tee, IMO it was a worthy gamble at #10, Ratanens are exceptions not the rule, no one behind him is doing exceptional except Caufield and Kaliyev and their problems were never simply performance related.
